VG30 Powered 510 anyone??

New to the Datsun Community, I have a carburated VG30 in my 510. I don't seem to come by too many VG powered 510s, If anyone does.. I'd really like to pick your brain. I've been having some trouble as of late with mine.

It was a much more common swap years ago. Sort of fell out of favor with the increased availability of more powerful (and lighter weight) engines like the SR20DET.

Love it!  We just picked up another 510 that HAD a VG30 in it, but car is now a rolling chassis with another VG30 pulled out of a 300ZX, sitting on a cart......AC compressor and all!  No plans yet, cuz we have other 510 projects, but always liked the idea of a VG powered 510!  Is Team Thump still around, still making the install kit??

I bought one from Jeff maybe 9 years ago and he seemed to be winding it down then, so...   :confused:

 

 

I think Dave Carroll at VG30.com (website seems to be down right now) is still making them though?

Its very hard to get ahold of dave these days - I believe I picked up one of the last kits that Jeff and team thump was producing about 7 years ago.

Yeah, he was offering stuff through another guy because Dave didn't mind building it but hated selling it and dealing with customers.   :rofl:

The best way to contact Dave Carroll is indeed via Facebook.  He recommends using his named account, not his experimental engineering account though.

I don't haven't been able to stock his catalog for years.

Don't know. I just threw him out there because he was the last man standing.  ^_^

 

Last time I was doing this swap (about 18 months ago), I converted to a front sump oil pan to use a stock Quest pan (easy to get new, and super cheap). Then a friend who has done a few (and built his own mounts) was removing his engine to build a bigger one, so while he had it out I just made copies of his mounts...    :P

I was lucky to get some pieces including his piece to allow VG30E pulleys to fit the VG33E. Now I can run a V-Belt and simplify the system and allow for fitment of a fan shroud and fan.
