Nissan_Boy85
For us to help you, we need to know what it came out of. Quote Link to comment
dat521kid
thats the thing, it came with my old truck and not sure where it came from dude said it was a 5 speed.. i dunno, thanks anyways Quote Link to comment
bonvo
check the shift pattern try shifting threw all the gears if there is a grand total of six its a 5 speed (reverse being the sixth obviously) if its only a 4 speed hang onto it i swaped a 5 speed into my car and kept the stock 4 speed just in case Quote Link to comment
dat521kid
only one problem with that bonvo, i dont have a shifter that fits :( Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It's a long tail F4W71B type L series 4spd. They were used on: '73-'78 240/260/280z cars. '74-79 620 trucks. '76-80 810. '80 720 Not worth keeping as it won't fit your 521 without modifying the drive shaft length and the tranny cross member mount. If someone really needed a replacement they would probably look for a 5spd to swap in... no modifications needed. If nothing was available it's worth what ever you want to charge. Hainz tells a funny story about throwing 2 old 4spds. out on his lawn with a FREE sign. When he came home from work there were 3 of them!!:lol: Thanks for the pictures though. J.C_620
Datzenmike how do ya tell if its its a 4 speed in those pictures? i cant tell the 4 and 5 speeds apart by just looking at them i do as bonvo said and go through the gears. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
The plate bolted to the top, by the shifter is a dead giveaway. ;) Quote Link to comment
Bleach
The style of shifter linkage would tell me its a late 70's transmission. Long tail. :) If only you could recycle it as-is. They weigh almost 100 pounds. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Why do you say that? It has the older style 'ears' for the shifter pin and also the older style mounting of the speedo cog. The odd thing are the ribs on the tailstock, somewhat like the C type. Quote Link to comment
dat521kid
wow you guys are amazing, guess its gonna take me few years to have that skill Quote Link to comment

510again
it looks like a five speed from a nissan truck(85-88?) or the later wagons with z22 or z24 motors. any numbers on it? Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
it looks like a five speed from a nissan truck(85-88?) or the later wagons with z22 or z24 motors. any numbers on it? This picture clearly shows that it has the proper L motor bolt pattern so won't fit any '81-'86 720. Four speeds weren't used on the '83-'86 720s. Four speeds were available on the later D-21 HB but they were FS5W71C type and did still have the 6 bolt cover plate on the tail stock. This is not an FS5W71C though. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Scrap near me is $0.60 lb. Most of the tranny weight is the adapter plate and gears. The two case halves don't weigh enough to make the work worth while. Quote Link to comment
420n620
ya scrap prices are not much today, how much room can the trans take up. just put it in a corner and save it for a future project or incase you find a datsun or friend that needs a trans. it seems like when something gets thrown away, you need it later down the road..
