Posted November 29, 2014 Report Share Posted November 29, 2014 The story behind the "Sheridan Express" Painting The Sheridan Express The story of Ann Sheridan’s visit to Yangkai by Jim White prompted me to write. You see, I am the artist that Jim alluded to who painted the ‘Sheridan Express’ on one of our planes, for that visit. It was flattering when the request came through that I do something. Shortly after I said I would, we discovered no artist’s brushes nor paint. We also knew it had to be accomplished that morning for their visit that afternoon! House paint was found, and for a brush I frayed a rough rope and tied about two inches of it on a stick. Armed with a “quick“ sketch, the paint and my brush, I was on a scaffold and painted the “Sheridan Express” that morning, what was left of it. I had no photo of Ann Sheridan but I knew she was a sexy red head and my paint job emphasized that hair. The paint was still wet when our guests arrived, and as the jeep passed by where I and many, many others were standing, straining to get a good look – there she was, in all her glory – an unkempt dishwater blonde.
