MikeRL411
Flight line cameras were forbidden in 1962 but I saw what happened to the A26 [NOT the misbegoten Martin "B26 'Farting Martin" co-named which deafened the flight crew] that were prepared for the Bay of Pigs invasion until Presedint Kennedy forbade their use. They were upgraded re=engined and structuraly reinforced WW2 "Real" A26s [Though they they still bore the B26 nomenclature] and had so much power that they were upgraded to Boeing 707 or Mil C135 equivalent disc brakes. Did I mention that the wings were reinforced with bomb drop points almost to the end of the wings? An absolutely beautiful example of what you can do a basically superior basic design! It was at Than Son Nuit AB Saigon [i will never say Ho Chi Minh City]. They lumbered out with wings heavy with bombs from tip to tip and with the "guidance and approval" of the ride along South VietNamese observer proceeded to bomb the #$%^ out of designated targets. Sure beats bombing desolated patches of the Bay of Pigs fiasco. By the way, "Tu Do Street" was still labeled "Rue Catinat" if you want to date my exposure. "Le Circul Sportif" was a popular meeting place for expats. Quote Link to comment
