wayno
Mine said 61lbs, I did it in 4 steps, 30lbs, 45lbs, 55lbs, and then 61lbs twice, so i guess that was 5 steps. Quote Link to comment
laotsu
follow the ARP instructions, including chasing teh threads. Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
I didn't like the stuff that was on the bolts when I got mine. I made sure I washed them in soap an water before putting them in any thing. Then I did what wayno said, however we both probably we're dealing with l20bs not the 1600, I don't believe there's a difference in torque tho. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
L16s is close to 40/45 L20 with turbo bolts close to 60. I think you went over kill on yours just a L16 and 210 head. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
L-20 specs are 60lbs for ARP studs.Use THEIR lube and nothing else. Quote Link to comment

logan1600
Alright my question is answered haha. Thanks everyone and I had to get the ARP cause I snapped off one and couldn't get a set or even one cause the guy at the junkyard said no. And i m planning on getting an l18 or 2O here soon and I can always reuse them. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I have stacks of stock head bolts. I use them as tent pegs 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Head studs on anything but a high boost turbo motor are overkill. The L28 turbo head bolts are still being used on full blown racing motors. Why can't you find any? Have you tried the dealer? They're cheaper at the dealer than ARP's, and then you don't have that whole problem of getting the head on and off. Studs suck when you have to remove the head. Quote Link to comment
scooter
Easy to take the studs out if you don't locktite them in :D Quote Link to comment
Dime Dave
If you read the ARP instructions you never Loctite the studs. Use their lube on both ends, screw the studs in by hand and slide the head over the studs (or install after the head is in place). Many of ARP's studs have a female hex in the end to turn them in/out by. 1 Quote Link to comment

scooter
Sorry to go off topic, but dime Dave how'd you mount those wide 5 hubs onto your car? Did you weld late model spindle stubs onto the struts? 1 Quote Link to comment
laotsu
If you read the ARP instructions you never Loctite the studs. It says 60lbs on the ARP paperwork. NOTE: Loctite may be used if a permanent mounting of the studs is preferred. So,,, never is more of an if you prefer. Quote Link to comment
Dime Dave
Oh well, new rules from the last set I installed. Scooter - the car in my avatar with the wide 5's is a full tube frame with double A-Arm front suspension and a quick change live rear axle. Quote Link to comment
scooter
Another thing I do is back the studs off a quarter turn from being bottomed out, as they will want to turn when torquing, and this will keep your studs from being bottomed out in the threads. Another thing is make sure you have at least a thread hanging out the top of the nut so you have full nut engagement. Sometimes I've put the studs in and have had only half a nuts worth of threads, so back up the stud till desired. Backing off the studs is important in other builds (350 4 bolt main studs) as if they're bottomed out they can cause a stress riser that can crack the block. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
OH YEAH!!!! use that lube. If you had a clue, you'd be fucking dangerous. 1 Quote Link to comment

That's one of the main reasons I don't like studs. I still don't understand why so many people think they need head studs, or main studs for that matter. Stock or turbo head bolts are fine. Z-train
Because NOS head bolts are more expensive than ARP studs. So it becomes a "no-brainer". 1 Quote Link to comment
