By the early PM I'll be carving the roads down the west coast of the Olympic Peninsula. Has anyone done this road? Scenery is fabulous, road is reasonably good and curvy through the woods, traffic almost non existent. Way, way better than through Seattle and the south to Portland rat race. Camp out in the goon Thurs. night.... probably near Seaside like last year when wander south and inland in the morning, no rush. Is the car ready? Well, she's been sitting since the last Canby and only drove her for maybe 1,400 miles. Oil's clean but probably will change it as it's two years old by now. Things to do?... swapped a 4.11 into it last summer. This is an 11.8% over all gearing change, or an increase of 300 RPM at 50 MPH. This really wakes up first gear! Haven't had it on the highway at all. The early zx 5 speed I am using is only a 13.6% overdrive so... as it was, at 50 MPH in 5th it's 2,228 RPMs and is now 2,475 RPMs. Curious how this will affect the mileage which in US gallons is just under 30 at best. But this removes most of the advantage of lower gearing in the first two gears. Well will have to sit down with pencil and paper an crunch the numbers. Depending when you go thru,,, Maybe a few of us could meet you at the taco van in Aberdeen when you go through, for a 5 minute street taco scarf and run meeting?
