Can't wait to see it crusin' off the road. The guys on Roadkill take muscle cars and give them a treatment similar to Tim's 1200, and they claim they have the best time ever off roading Chargers, Camaros, etc, etc.. Looks like they have a blast while they are doing it.. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
We got the lines from the master cylinders out done... Over to the bulkhead fitting for the rear brakes done, as well as the clutch line over from clutch master... And hooked up on the clutch end as well... We also got the line done from the T down to the near side wheel done... Only thing left to do up front is make the line from the other side of the T go over and down to the far side wheel. 👍 Hoping to get that done Saturday, then we can start on running the inside lines. We also installed another bulkhead fitting in the floor above the rear axle, but it was a bit too dark for photos in there (by the time I remembered to take one 😋). 4 Quote Link to comment

dimlight65
We were short a little bit on our hose calculations... and number of hose ends somehow. Saturday, we took a run over to Summit and bought the end we needed and a 24" premade hose. Today, before the weather started to turn, I terminated the last of the inside-the-cockpit hoses, then installed it and the hose from the bulkhead fitting to the rear axle T. Photos (admittedly kinda shitty) are on my Instant Grams (pictures 1-8 are what John and I accomplished up through Saturday. Pix 9 &10 are relevant to today's post). Once the brake lines are done, header is in, and we run fuel lines, in theory it could start up and drive. 1 Quote Link to comment

I suppose, as long as there is no glass in it, there's little chance of me derailing the paint and bodywork by invoking my Patron Saint: Mediocrates! 1 1 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
Tim was able to finalize the routing of the underhood lines, and tidy them up a bit... We also had some billet separators we had acquired previously that Tim redrilled and retapped to M6 so we could use them under the car to hold the fuel lines... We are just waiting on the new fuel filter now to start running the hard lines for the fuel system. Should be starting on that on the next visit... 3 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
Set about mounting and routing lines for the new fuel filter on Saturday... The bolts holding the license light covers on stuck out into the truck about 15mm so we repurposed one of those for the lower fuel filter mount... Looked at the best way to do the upper, and decided to attach it to the tank strap using the same material as before... After grokking it for a bit, Tim really didn't like that so he whipped one up out of some flat steel we had... And then I added a few speed holes and painted it for him... That will go back on Wednesday for good, as well as (hopefully) some rubber hoses back here... Also futzed with the brake lines a bit. We got the small extension on the e-brake hose done, so now it fits much better... Rear hose tightened and zip tied... Front hose tightened and zip-tied... Brake lines are all tight and finished except for the two rear calipers, as we still need to build those... 👍 Edited February 14, 2022 by datsunfreak 1 Quote Link to comment
dimlight65
I needed the ramps to change the oil on the Smart (and so John could replace an emissions valve that's bee throwing a CEL) so I put the rear axle on stands. We've all seen enough cars on stands that I don't think a photo is necessary! So now we're ready to yank wheels and get started in the rear caliper install. 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
We got cracking on the fuel lines finally. Decided to start at the front. This is on the firewall, one bent forward to go to the fuel pressure regulator, one bent up to go to the return line of the carb... Underneath they run right beside the frame rail for a little protection... At the back they go up and turn to the driver's side. I did not love how these bends came out, but they work fine... They come up through the floor just in front of the fuel cell... Saturday's plan is to get all the rubber lines done on these, and to do the rubber oil lines also. 👍 1 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
Got some hose, so made some lines. Tank to filter... Filter to pump... Return from tank to floor, and pump to floor... May shorten/reroute hose. Also may flip sides on the pipes so they don't go over the top of each other... We also futzed with some issues with how we are going to do the cooling system lines/filling, but did not come to a solid conclusion so that will have to wait until next time... 2 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
After much head scratching, we decided on a way to make it easier to fill the cooling system. See, our VW radiator had no filler, and we didn't really have enough space in the upper hose to put in an inline filler. So we got a tank for it... That nipple on the left goes to the radiator, and the one on the bottom goes to the engine... A hose will go from there to the rear-facing pipe on this... Also made a nifty bracket for the back side of the tank, and installed a loop to route the blowoff hose down to the ground... We also finally installed the intake gasket and finished up the underhood wiring... Last thing was I finally found a good candidate for the rear rotor upgrade. We are using a disc brake 200SX rear axle, but the stock rotors were too small in diameter (10.1"} to use the Brembo calipers we had (not enough swept area). I found some meant for a 2004-2006 Sentra SE-R Spec V that are a straight fit and 10.9" in diameter... These should have plenty enough swept area for the Brembos, assuming we can sort out how to bolt them up... 😁 2 Quote Link to comment
