For those who don't know, we bust each other's balls a lot. Like, a LOT a lot. 😄

I think when you get more than one guy in a shop, that goes on most everywhere.

I know the guys in the San Diego shop are/were brutal.  You'd might think we'd hated each other or something...

And let me say the car is looking pretty cool.  I like it.  Datsun 1200's and cockroaches will survive the Russian nukes...

So, in addition to changing out the crusty bolts on the carb, John also shortened the lower radiator hose while I wasn't looking.  I am much less annoyed with the engine bay.

The reason I wasn't watching John was, I made a very out of focus throttle pedal stop.

And we "finalized" our fuel filler situation.

Yes Datzenmike, those are radiator hoses.  Yes, we know radiator hoses are not fuel rated.  Yes, we are going to replace them.

The number of rodeos in which John and I have been involved, is greater than one.

So the grand total of things accomplished at the shop this weekend were...

IMG_20220430_142859501.thumb.jpg.39970858fbf31f4bab900b1629461100.jpg

Installed radiator cap, and...

Fed the shop's precious babies... er, I mean, stray mongrel cats!

So we got some more work done tonight.

First, I finally installed hose clamps on the upper radiator hose.

IMG_20220504_173636294.thumb.jpg.39ce7c734b59447b7fe1a8966c6d2af6.jpg

And finalized the finalization of the fuel filler hose from an earlier post

IMG_20220504_164457339.thumb.jpg.8f46dde6c33f56066d8c69a1da52ff8b.jpg

And as proof that I used fuel safe hose, here are the off-cuts

And I know there's no clamp on the top connection.  We're going to have to remove the filler cap assembly for paint (hopefully) soon.  I guess we need a picture of that.  It's quite bitchin'!

"The number of rodeos in which John and I have been involved, is greater than one."

The way this is stated is perfect, especially considering a guy from Texas said it.

I'll be using this from here on.

Yes, pictures please. Take your time, it's not like I'm going to do this to my 1200. Well, I'm pretty sure I'm not.

The filler neck in question was an aluminum -32AN* fitting welded to a gas cap housing that I found at an airplane junkyard garage sale back in 2014!  Ain't no one gonna be replicating THAT! 😝

I'll get a picture of it tomorrow.

*Yes, a 2" male AN fitting!  It's the biggest AN fitting I have ever seen.

Then bolted it back on to show it "in situ"

The big hex shaped thingy is a fire suppression nozzle we're using as a vent tube termination point.  It has a hole in each of the three bottom facing faces, one of which you can just see in the first picture.  If you saw this before this edit, it does NOT clamp that "corner" of the ring as I said before.  It is inset into the ring.

No idea what the four extra holes are for.  I may "lanyard" the cap to the housing with one of them.

And yes, we ground off the AN threads so the hose slips on easier.

Well, someone did ball up a low wing recently.....

Yeah, but I replaced it with this

We did, and decided against doing, some work on the car today.  And took no pictures.

I capped off some vacuum ports on the carb.

I came up with three options for a perceived potential problem with the alternator wiring... and was convinced to go with "Leave it the f*ck alone!"

I noticed that we had stacked the washers and spacers differently, side to side, on the steering tie rods, switched them to match, and then decided the bolts were too short.

John removed the bolts and spacers and we decided on a new spacer stack sequence... with some additional spacers and thingies.

And finally, I bought new bolts and some more spacer washers, which we will probably install Saturday.

Aaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnd... after messing with a similar master cylinder to use as the clutch master in the Dajiban, and doing a Google search for "How to plumb a hydraulic handbrake," I am about 99.987265% sure we have this hydraulic handbrake plumbed backward.

We discussed routing before doing the final hunker on the banjo bolts.  John advocated the banjo fittings being more parallel, with the left hand one shoosting off to the right of the other.  I voted for the Kris Kross to get the hose to fall in line with the wiring harness (and because Daddy Mac will make you Jump!).  In the end, IT'S MY DAMNED CAR! So I won.

We were looking at wiring harness routing to the back and had planned to go straight down the tunnel. But since there's a big frame hump in the way, we did this...

Here's the post of when we did that back in August.  I realized afterwards that I totally shot myself in the "removable wiring harness" foot by doing this.  But it does look good!

Well, the good news is, the likelihood of us ever removing it is zero.  😁

Unless I decide to paint the interior pink or something!

So I picked up the header from the ceramic coating place.  I knew it was badass (I mean, I made it after all) but this shiny coating makes it ever so much MORE badass!
