Revival of the Chickenhawk...

I have sort of semi-forgotten about the Chickenhawk.  It's been a while.  When are you guys gonna get it driving again?

John forced me to confront a possibility the other day.  He asked if I really want to get it back on the road.  Of course, I said I do want to finish it.  But that has raised the question of "Why do I keep letting other projects cut in front of it?"  The best I can promise is that with winter coming on, we'll want to work indoors more.  Therefore the Chickenhawk will return to a front burner position soon.

I would stir this up a bit more but there's that goon I bought from John in 2013 that is still not done.

So I'll just be quiet.

Mostly.

Today, while I was working on the Chickenhawk goofing off at the shop, a pair of impossibly smol criminals crawled out from under the toolbox.

I apprehended them and kept them in custody until their mother arrived to claim them.

I'd bring them home, but my cats would probably not like it... and I know my brother-in-law wouldn't!

Scored a rear sway bar today!

His asking price was "Two six packs of 20oz Diet Mountain Dew."

But I ripped him off!  What I gave him were 1/2 liter bottles!  Muwahahahahahahaha!

I was looking at Amazon yesterday and saw a set of ATV tires I had saved in a Wish List.  It got me thinking about how "tame" the Yokohama Geolandar tires I bought for this project are.  I looked at some other ATV tire options (since the ones on the Wish List were no longer available) and saw some really cool looking 28x10.5/15s I really liked.  But then I couldn't remember what size the Geolandars are.  I went back in this thread to see (and wound up re-reading the last 20 pages or so) and have decided that the 26.5" tall Geolandars are just barely aggressive enough... for now.

After installing the hood pins, I asked, "How are we going to make a steering column surround?"

We grabbed the shift boot that we couldn't make fit the floor (due to the added thickness of the bed liner material)...

and made a metal plate to hold it...

This we test fit to the hole (without the boot at the moment)...

it is secured with nigh-impossible-to-install bolts...

It is hanging in the "paint booth" until tomorrow when we will do the final install.

Yes, I now realize I should have waited until tomorrow to post, but I (pause for dramatic effect) am a Post Whore!

While cleaning the shop, we found a brand new choke cable (two, actually) and I says to myself, "Self, you ort to use one of them on the Chickenhawk."

Dashboard end...

We didn't like the silver color of the sheath so we "wasted" several feet of heat shrink to enblacken it.  I think it turned out pretty well.

John and I were discussing how we should mount the sway bar I acquired a few posts back.  I had an elaborate way to kinda replicate the stock setup, which John shot down by suggesting a much simpler and, frankly, beautiful solution.  He directed me to the Energy Suspension website and showed me the array of universal sway bar bushing and saddle "kits" they offer.  We will bolt them together like this...

Of course, we had left the shop by this point and needed the diameter of the bar and control arm rods before I could order them.

Today I went to the shop and grabbed the bar, as well as a representative control arm threaded rod, and took some measurements...

or 22mm according to this...

I went back to Energy Suspension, and found the bushing kits I'll need...

and put four sets in my shopping cart.

I then drug the bar and some zip ties under the car to see how well everything lines up...

It's not terrible, but we do have some tweaking to do.  Fortunately, I have lots of wiggle room at the chassis end of the links...

I'm confident we can make it work.
