earlyvws
Picking up at powder. I like it. Powder gets all the interior too. Hard to get paint in here. Loren O I would love to make you one, but u have to know how much space you have between ur seats. I can't make any promises but if u get me dimensions and I still have my equipment set up, I can do it for you. 2 Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
that's really nice. id buy one if I had bucket seats. isn't too much room with the bench Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
think I might have to make it to JCCS to watch this truck get an award instead of tankers  Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
think I might have to make it to JCCS to watch this truck get an award instead of tankers  If he lost to me then something is wrong i would say. Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
Lol u guys are funny. I have a long way to go before even making it to JCCS. Let alone win. Best I get is 2nd place a few times. Oh and there's the problem of telling the wife I built a truck and we're going to Long Beach for a car show. I really just want to see the show and meet people. I got to say, the datsun/ nissan guys I been meeting have been the best experience. The most surprising is the 240sx guys. They have been exactly the opposite I expected. Super helpful and really nice and easy going. So I hope to meet everyone and talk datsun shit cuz my vw friends are boring. They just stare into space when I start talking about datsun. 1 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yeah but its easier to work on. Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
I'm trying to figure out what everyone is using for edging their doors, hood, etc... I've looked at a lot of pics but can't find any that show the detail I'm looking for. So which is guys. Faux chrome or black..... J/K. I was looking for red so chrome will have to do. Girl at the register was almost hot rockabillie full sleeve chick. She looked at me a smiled real big and said in the voice u use to talk to children "Gonna edge you car this weekend , huh". I was compelled to tell her no, I'm doing something cool with this cheesy stuff. Showed her pics and she then was impressed with me. 2 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Yea that red and the maroon, nice colors but I got to see what this looks like in your truck. And is this going to be part of a full center console? Did you cut the bed hooks off yet.and did you see the pic I posted for you with the bed skirts.hope it helps or shows you what not to do. earlyvws
The 2 reds are basically me taking a short cut. I bought the vinyl before doing the powder and before getting the other seats. The vinyl cost $55 a yard and I have a lot. At powder coat I choose what he had in stock. I could of got a color closer to the vinyl I have but it also wouldn't match the seats. So ultimately I will have 3 reds in the interior. Kind of what happens when u make last minute changes. But reds usually all don't match anyways. The front edge (near the shifter) will have a machined aluminum attachment for cup holders and to soften up the hard edges of the rest of it. I haven't made this piece yet. The chunk of aluminum I need to machine Yes I took a look at ur pics. I just not sure how I can do anything to my bed that won't involve a lot of time. If I go with ur suggestion I would have to make a new roll pan. (Ur idea of bigger additions then what u already have done). I think this truck is going to be what it is. I really hope to build another one with all the detail work and finer running then this one. I will defiantly spend more time on every aspect of the next build. Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Why not black with the maroon seats and material. It looks good though don't get me wrong, just why rush it? Your truck is coming out very well. Quote Link to comment
datson4life
I used some similar stuff for my door panels Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
I love the carbon fiber door panels. Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
Tanker been thinking about ur question about the center consul being 1 piece of a whole. So I decided maybe I can add to it. This what I came up with so far. Have a lot more to add and figure out how to transition from one to the other and attaching it to the tunnel. So we will see if I can pull this off. 1 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
Oh I'll be watching you. Quote Link to comment

GUS-GUS
WOW! Just finished with all 18 pages! Good job! Funny that I was hoping to get to see the trucks in person and then I saw that you're in Santa Clara!! You should come out to the monthly meets. I also picked up a 521 last monday so if you have spare parts let me know! Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
I've wanted to make it to the meet. I even get my 130 am coffee every night at the Starbucks where u guys meet . Unfortunately my schedule I am not in Santa Clara at the time of the meet. I am at home waiting for my wife to get home from work to watch the kids so I can leave to work on her Ghia, I mean the truck. Maybe when all this is done I will be able to make it there. Or if u guys push the time a little later say like 8 pm! Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
Been working on the bed. It is taking a lot of time to make it look good. I didn't realize how fucked up it really is. It looked pretty decent to begin with but in the end it is not going to be perfect. Just too much work to make really nice and I'm already out of time. But on a good note my FJ20 crank showed up. It looks good hopefully no damage during shipping. 2 Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
were did you get the crank and how much if you dont mine me asking. Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
Got it from sw motor sports in Australia. It was $400 AUD for the crank so a little less then $400 USS, but shipping was a bitch. I think that was $340AUD so total is $750 + USD with conversion and fees. But I choose the best one they offered. They have one for $240 AUD but it would require a regrind. This one is supposed to be ready to go and still standard size. I mic the mains and they seem to be perfect. I didn't check the rod surfaces though. But I will have the machine shop really inspect it. He was worried about shipping. He says he has seen cranks get bent during shipping so he will check for straightness and of course out of round etc... 2 Quote Link to comment
earlyvws
In between the endless body work on the bed, I have been working on little projects. I have a roof top box that I had tried to sell several times on CL. No takers. So now I have a use for it. It's going to be my lockable trunk for daily use and when removed it leaves almost no signs of being there. I made 2 crossbars. Welded nut plates under the bed. This all that will be visible when not in place. And figured out my rear view mirror. My buddy had a pretty hard to find early T34 Ghia mirror. Kind of a pricey mirror. But has been one of my favorites. Paid him a c note and it couldn't have worked out better. I cut the ball off the stock 521 mirror arm and the shaft is perfect for a m6x1.00 thread. The mirror also had a m6 thread. So Home Depot had the perfect aluminum space that I thread all the way through and here it is Put together 6 Quote Link to comment
ol' 320
Clever idea for a lockable space. The rearview is nice! Quote Link to comment
