I thought he did an ok job with the first installment and I was willing to accept his adaptation of The Lord of the Rings sans Tom Bombadil et al. But Sauron was less than a whisper in The Hobbit and Smaug barely singed Thorin and the dwarves let alone some bullshit battle. Tolkein's dragons are brilliant and cunning and would never be tricked int the lighting of forges. So, even if the viewer is to accept the addition for action's sake Jackson has diluted Smaug's character and in doing so greatly marred one of Tolkein's greatest creations. I hold very little hope for the third film. Mr. Jackson gets a D+ for this trilogy. kiwi Link to comment
