KlassicMotion
I've never been thrilled with the 70's Datsun side marker lights. I like the earlier '68-'69 US spec side marker front lights, but they are getting pricey, and, good or bad, they hide the body line at the nose of the car. I like the US spec lights because they mimic the body line, but I also like seeing a clean body line like the lower later style marker light offers. I've seen some options where people inside mount some lenses and call it good... Not a bad way to go, but I don't like seeing the two screws on the outside. There is also the option of mounting the Jap-spec arrow lights on outside edge of the bumper, or just shaving the lights off all together. Maybe it's something to get use to, but the 510 seems to be a little naked with out any light on the side. I, like most people will probably just leave the factory configuration alone, but I'd like to see what other people have done to customize their car. Here are a couple pics I picked up off Google. ** If these are pics of your car, and you want me to remove them, just let me know.... Quote Link to comment
mrbigtanker
I like the side lights then when i look at the last 510 i like them with out it to. Quote Link to comment
KlassicMotion
For me, on a non-flared car, the quarter panels, just look bare without them.... I've got a set of clear lenses to go around my car, but they didn't look right either.... Quote Link to comment
The Dat-side
There was some newer car that has signals similar to the early 510 bullet style. Forget what car though. Quote Link to comment
Tristin
I bought a set of C130 lights to use, but they ended up being larger than anticipated. Im sure they would look great as a 70s replacement but too large for my 69 lights. Quote Link to comment

danfiveten
Thing is people forget we have marker lights for a reason, kind of helps you be seen from the side so you dont get t-boned, thats why to me the brighter led ones i see some people throw on are awsome. Being seen is better than not being seen. Also not a fan of the flush looking once, just looks weird to me. I like them to pop out just a lil bit. 1 Quote Link to comment

thisismatt
I like the side markers. To me they add character to the body and since so many Datsun models had essentially the same markers from that period, they are part of the look IMO. Plus, they can be converted to blinkers so people to your sides at 4 way intersections can actually tell that you're planning to turn. 1 Quote Link to comment

I haven't looked at the wiring for the lights... So what, you need a flasher lead from the turn signals, and a dual filament bulb.... Anything else? I guess maybe a different socket that has the dual filament hook up? Quote Link to comment

You can just wire the red wire up to the hot wire on your lights. Itll flash with the blinkers (I think thats the right wiring...). There is a write-up in DQ. Quote Link to comment
KlassicMotion
Nooo... That's way too easy! Well, I think I will finish my show and head to the garage! Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I was just out checking out my car. I was just thinking aboot mounting the sides from the inside. Then I found this thread. I don't like them mounted flush. I would want them to stand out a little. Maybe shave the housing just a touch to still keep the look, just a little more streamline. Tristen, post them C130 lights. I would like to see them. Maybe put a lighter next to them for comparison. EDIT: I didn't see that this was a 510 thing. I'll just leave and go cry in the corner now. Quote Link to comment

KlassicMotion
A friend of mine has an e36 (750il). One day I noticed the side marker on it. So I bought a set.... I haven't seen them since I moved, but when I had them, I thought they would fit pretty well. [/url]">http:// Quote Link to comment

Ill throw some size referenced pics up tomorrow when I have some light. I wish I had access to 70s markers for comparison, but Ill use the arrows that I have. Quote Link to comment

KlassicMotion
I downloaded it. It downloads into Excel. Easy to read. I'm a literature junky. Just like all the Car Porn I have. I have 1.6 GB of 510 photos..... That's just pics of the cars that I like. It's great for my 2 year old son too though. He always asks to see Datsuns. So I just play the pictures in a slide show, and he's happy. Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
I don't have a 510 to compare to, but my wife's friend just pulled up in this Hyundai and I noticed the side markers are about the right size and shape . Her exhusband blacked them out, but hopefully you can get the idea from these pics. Could be a cheaper option. Quote Link to comment
