akawes
anyone know of a way? Quote Link to comment
gearboxx70
Only thing I know of (excluding whatever acids the chromers use) is bile. (That's stomach acid.) You could drink a bunch of Coke or Pepsi and go puke on your bumpers. That should do it. Or if you know someone who's anorexic, just take her out to dinner and she'll do the rest. bonvo
why do you want to remove the chrome? its a rather good protector if you dont like the look painting over it would be better then removing it 2 Quote Link to comment
akawes
its over plastic to be honest and i would have painted over it if it wasn't already peeling. Quote Link to comment
72240z
Ya 2nd panting over it, there is no good reason to remove it really. Even if its peeling you just sand it down real good, smooth it out and lay your primer. There are many methods of removal though, cola soda, baking soda mixed with detergent, oven cleaner, various acids, brute force like sanding etc... Quote Link to comment
Dat Lurka
cola removes anything and everything.. Try some emery cloth. It takes chrome off quick just be careful not to eat up the plastic Quote Link to comment
Dawa
1st thought: why would you wanna remove chrome? but then again, this is RATsun :) also, yeah you dont have to REMOVE the chrome to paint it. just like anything all you gotta do is scuff up the surface so that paint and or primer can adhere to it. steel wool, emery, coral, sand paper. whatever Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
We sand it on the plastic. That's how I prepped my side emblems before hand painting them Quote Link to comment

72240z
You still dont have to remove it all if you dont want to. You remove whats flaking off and then glaze coat it. Then you can prime. Quote Link to comment
Dawa
have you tried pissing on it? Quote Link to comment

yenpit
For removing chrome from PLASTIC (like the 70-73 c-pillar vents), I have heard that heavy duty oven cleaners, like Easy Off (the heavy duty version, not the regular lemony smelling version), or Mr Muscle oven cleaner do the trick. These are apparently very caustic, and smell bad, so wear gloves and use in a ventilated area! Also heard there is an automotive product called Bleche-White that works well. Good luck with the project! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Corrected the title. I though it was a 'how to' for removing trim. Turns out it a question on how to remove plastic chrome. You might get some extra sensible answers now..... or not Quote Link to comment

Wicked Saint
I removes the pitted flaking chrome plating on my c pillar vents using a tweezers, wet sanblasting, and a dental pick. It aint easy and it aint fun. Quote Link to comment
akawes
I just wound up using a pick and a razorblade. It took awhile but i got it then i sanded with 1000 Quote Link to comment
