How was the new location (North Seattle instead of Shoreline C.C,)

 

I'd never been to the show before so I can't compare but it seemed like a pretty good fit for the number of cars and vendors in the swap meet area.

That sounds right, factory started doing them in mid 57. Before that it was the dealers that sent them to napco for the conversion.

Based on the hubs and how the front diff looked, my money is on this body sitting on a much newer frame. 

 

Also had an aluminum radiator, electric fans and fuel pump, modern seats and interior, etc.

Looks like some newer warn hubs for sure.

Notchbacks are sick.... they're the "bluebird coupe" of the VW world..... I had a buddy build one in the late 80's pre-internet & it took him YEARS to source all the parts.

I don't remember ever seeing one of those before - it was one of my favorites. The black one along side it was very nice as well.

I loved the art on the van! First thing I noticed in the lot. I also liked the green of the wagon.

Agreed. I've never seen one there that was so overly modified it was fugly. I'm a fan of 'original is best' myself but some mods can be done in good taste. It's the ones that go overboard that can ruin a car.

To me, what can really make or break them is the wheel and tire choice. Those tall skinny(ish) tires on a steel rim always look great on those cars to me. Traditional hot rods are very cool.
