I need a L 16 exhaust manifold

I need a L 16 exhaust manifold for my 521. The end of mine is warped & blowing out gaskets. I already tried the double gasket trick BTW :D The yards down here have been Datsun-less lately.

Is it the pipe end of the manifold that is warped. I was able to pull the studs out of mine, and then get a new 12" mill file, and file it flat. No, it was not easy, and it did take a while, but it was cheaper and faster than taking it to a machine shop, dropping it off, returning in a few days after it was done, and picking it up.

Ok to clarify, it's where the pipe connects, sorry. That sounds like an option & alot cheaper. A grinder can be used too as long as it's held flat against it. Another thing i want to do is replace the old ass studs & use grade 8 nuts & bolts w/ loctite, tired of them coming loose. TY DanielC

I re-threaded mine with helicoils and ran GR8 studs. Worked awesome, I was able to get the nuts nice and tight.

Steve that rocks, i think mine r stripped too causing them to back out. Do you remember what the thread size was for the NEW bolts ?

I wanna say 8mm, but I can check the helicoil set when I get home.

 

One of the old ones was broke off and the other threads were so rusty they could barely hold themselves in place :P

If you or a buddy has a belt sander, it's flatter than the grinder and faster than a file :)

The stock studs on an L-16 manifold are M8 x 1.25. I had to drill mine to get them out. If you ever work on a L-series Datsun engine, you need a M6 x 1 tap and die, a M8 x 1.25

tap and die, and a M10 x 1.5 tap and die.

You guys rock. Wish i had a belt sander...:rolleyes: May have to drill mine out too, 1 of them snapped off the last time i tried to tighten it. Damm they just dont make 37 year old bolts like they used to...:D

Pacific coast. I have a spare l16 Exhaust manifold. I bought it off ebay because it came with the Head pipe connection. Dont need the manifold. You can have it for free. Just pay for shipping. Its missing one of three studs.

Loosen them after running motor when hot, or torch the flange beside it if worried about breaking them off. Replace with SS studs, nuts and lock washers, never rusts, stronger than stock, bolts ALWAYS come off no trouble even years later.
