This isn't necessarily true. Fwd does have a time and place where it can be very beneficial. Take roads covered in snow for example. It's easier for the normal people to control a fwd on the slippery roads. Awd would be best for this, but some just can't afford it. Rwd would be hard for the average person as the rear would break easily on them. 

 

On the track Rwd is best because of the handling

Every high performance car is either rear or all wheel drive, it has everything to do with weight transfer and balance, simple as that
