Hey looky, thats not an Lseries alt!
IMG_0402.JPG

Wires! The spade connectors I used are of the "F crimp" style, where it crimps onto the wire, and the housing.
IMG_0403.JPG

A pic of the wiring from when I did my ZX Alt, this still works. One day I will delete this...

Too address the leak I had going on, I figured it was the timing chain inspection plate. I think I see something!

So I decided some RTV was in order since the seal didnt want to play nice. Ill have a day time install picture tomorrow.
IMG_0412.JPG

Pulled my dizzy, I think the seal was leaking... Wait, this doesnt look like the proper gasket... But I did notice the top half came off easily and the bottom half needed to be scraped off.

Anyways, Ill get some more pictures tomorrow. Im hoping I solved the dirty motor issues.

I need to go to the JY and get a new Alt Pulley. My pulley is off center due to the shaft being smaller in diameter...

Yay a collection of parts for my car!

What you are seeing:

2X Moog Ball joints

All the Moog Tie Rod ends

2X Tie Rod center pieces (Moog...)

Raybestos Idler Arm bushings/rebuild kit.

Duralast Centerlink

All the Moog stuff is stamped with the Three Five badge, which makes me feel better, all of it made in Japan.

I was also at the JY, and grabbed a few pulleys to try on my Alt.

Wow.  I think we bought all of the same stuff on the same day.  Odd.  I spent I think $200 total for Ball joints, tie rod ends and shaft, bushings, crosslink, plus all the other rubber parts behind the tire.  Fun stuff.  I just got done POR15'in it all.

RTV section of inspection plate, not much oozing happening, so I was I happy. I probably only needed to apply the RTV to the bottom half....

I only manage to get the tie rods and centerlink done today. I stopped taking pictures at some point, hands got really dirty.

Start with removing the cotterpin. Then remove the nut.
IMG_0430.JPG

On most cars I work on at work this trick works. I usually smack the steering knuckle with a 4lb hammer 3-4 times, and pop! But that didnt work on this car. So I threaded the nut back on a bit, and then hit the top.

And its out.
IMG_0434.JPG

But Mr Sawzall had to make an appearance, I just could not get the centerlink off the pitman arm.
IMG_0435.JPG

So I removed the steering box, and the remains of the center link pivot came out in 1 swing.

Basically I put everything back together, and greased it. More pictures when I do the ball joints, which really need replacing.

The odd thing is, my steering really doesn't feel much different. What has really prompted me to do this, well the left tie rod end has been progressively digging more and more into my wheel weight on right turns. Also I had a minor front end clunk.

Now I just need to get an alignment...
