Ratty McRatsun 521

I was messing with wheel combos in photoshop on my 521. Thought I'd take it a step further and virtually drop it 3" and do some ratty shop truck inspired stuff. So the door art, mooneyes, mirror and the words "Oil Drop" are virtual. But if you haven't seen the truck before, the Oil drop Mascot is actually real. It used to be a mobile oilchange truck.

Whatcha guys think?

Wow... that looks pretty good. I actually like the door art... I'd love to make my truck into a rat, but we'll see how that goes.

The wheels look pretty good in that colour... I wouldn't have expected it, but it works somehow. The rear wheels are a bit too tall though, but that's just my opinion. The Oil Drop cartoon is pretty neat too... all you've gotta do now is just fade out the Ratsun Garage a bit to make it look weathered and you'll be set...

BTW, got a larger size? I think it's time to change my desktop... :D

Thanks guys! Weathering the logo would be the fun part! To pull of this look I'd love a clean interrior, clean under side, clean engine bay, and something eyecatching and clean under the hood. I just love that sort of contrast. But that'll be a while. (Mmmm like that l20 engine that was going fo 4K on flea bay. Yummy!)

The missmatched white tailgate I have coming should enhance the rattines too!

Hey what's the best source for grabbing 3" lowering blocks for the rear?

I found this company, any other recomendations? Or is it all pretty much the same?

Hahaha, I think it'd be pretty hilarious to have a fleet of Ratsun Garage trucks running around... It would just take a hell of a long time to try to paint the logo on, especially if you were going to try to weather it as well... would look pretty good though.

Wow, awesome... sounds like it's going to look pretty good.

But... got a larger version of that pic, or is that the only one?

I can shoot you a bigger one no problem! PM me your e-mail. I've got this as my desktop.

Anyone else want one?

Cool pic...I may have to steal your Ratsun Garage idea lol

All are welcome at a Ratsun Garage! So have at it. It'd be cool as hell to see a few lined up at a car show. You would have to check with the admins if anyone wanted to reproduce it commercially. I think they are cool with private use though.

]2eDeYe- a ratsun garage logo is a natural for the doors on your black primered 620!

I will shot an e-mail with a bigger file shortly for those who've asked.

Desktopped... :D Looks pretty slick.

A line of those would look pretty cool at a show... it'd be even more interesting to see everyone's different takes on the "Rat" part of the name... You'd have four or five of them lined up, and their only similarities might be the logo and the fact that they're all Datsuns...

fisch- i love your idea of clean bits with "weathered" exterior, basically what i was thinking too. clean "shaved" engine bay, clean "old school" wheels, clean bed, clean simple comfortable interior, intentionally preserved "ratty" exterior (and when i say clean i don't mean free of dirt, i mean aesthetically clean). as much as i love almost every "rat rod" i see, my most favorite ones are the ones that are only rat looking. know what i mean? i forget who's dime it was on here but somebody had spent some time under the hood during an engine swap and had painted it a real nice sorta burnt orange color, but hadn't had quite gotten to the exterior yet.. i thought it was awesome. i love the idea of driving something that the uninformed masses wouldn't give a second look, might even scoff and write it off as a junker, you pop the hood and this almost perfect simple lil engine is sitting in this nice lil engine bay... i'm not a huge fan of chrome, but i like chip foose's theory that when you open an engine bay it should be like opening a ring box, dark all around with this shiny lil jewel in the middle.

anyway, it's apparent that you've got some great plans for this truck... can't wait to see the progress.

also i agree that a line of "shop trucks" from ratsun garage would be cool.

Ohhh shiznet. I was all set on some orange smoothies and Baby moon hubcaps. Then I found out about artillery wheels from the 30's and 40's! Yup they are 6X5.5.

Anyone have experience with these?

After seeing these virtually, I don't know if I can go back to smoothies. They are 16X5.5 so I think they will fit. I will run a post about them seperatly to ask some questions.

Here is that post.

Just noticed the Moon sticker on the fender, how '60s! The rims work because they have some red in the orange paint. Could you shop a set of lake pipes on it for me? Maybe have the pipe run the length of the cab and capped, just below 'oil drop'? I know that's a lot but it will work, trust me.

Just picked up some artillary wheels for $60! Sa-weet. I can paint them any color I want so I could also go orange with that sun design in the center of the wheels like above. That'd tie the orange. Check um out! I thenk they are form 1935 or so, and have chevy caps at the moment.

Mike have you got a side shot pic of lake pipes? You can PM me a link. I'd like to see that too!
