Roostmonkey
I paid like $648 from my welding supply guy and I got the canvas cover too. As for the 220v, Ive already got a Millermatic 185 and its a great machine, I just wanted a good portable that will plug in anywhere. Quote Link to comment
Roostmonkey
Heres the mods That were needed to get the motor mounts correct. The first pics shows how far off they were.I cut almost all the way across the mount face but left about 1/8th" material and pulled the bottom out the 1/2" it was off. Then I cut wedges to fill the gap and welded it inside and out. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Nice and simple... Quote Link to comment
Roostmonkey
A little too simple.Turns out, I need to shift the motor aprox 1/2" to the passengers side to give me more clearance for the turbo and steering column. Its not touching but when the motor moves on the mounts it will prolly hit the WG arm. Oh well, I knew it was too easy. Quote Link to comment
Roostmonkey
It took a while but its in its final location. I built this gantry to help position it without the swinging I was getting from the hoist. I would recomend this setup to everyone installing a motor.Anyway, its good to make some progress. Now to pull it all out and finish the welding. Quote Link to comment
Roostmonkey
It took some hackin to make room for the tranny.Shifter position is excelent as long as you dont keep the bench seat. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
So were you able to keep the e-brake cable where it was? Or have you just not removed the handle yet in that pic? Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
The project is looking great! Did you cut the tranny tunnel with the reds on the floor boards? If so you are a dam artist! Being a tin bender for a living makes you appreciate a nice cut. 2 thumbs up from the tin bender :D Quote Link to comment
Roostmonkey
I'm going to try and keep the stock Ebrake but it may involve relocating the bracket slightly. And yes, I cut the tunnel with snips. Years of tin knockin finally paid off Quote Link to comment
fisch
Roost thanks for being so thorough with the pics. This thread will be a great resource for others! Quote Link to comment

fisch
Yeah Roost! You are the only other 521 owner I know of in New England, you gotta keep it going! i just heard there is a Japanese auto show every year here in MA at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline. It'd a great place to showcase all your hard work on this. I guess it usually takes place in Sept. or Oct. `Course you do have one sweet Z you could bring too! Quote Link to comment
Roostmonkey
We havent made much progress in the last month or so. I sumped the gas tank and fabbed the start of the down pipe. The holidays and a death in the family have slowed things down , not to mention working in the cold sucks. It will be on the road this spring for sure. We ( Z car club of New England ) have attended the Japanese show for the last few years. Not too many modified cars there, mostly stock. I'll keep yall posted when theres something to post about. Roostmonkey
Its been a long time since Ive been here and unfortunatly,I dont have any updates to show . My son ( the little @&*^ ) lost interest and as of now, wont sell the truck to me.At this point, hes kinda phuqued, I started my own engine swap and I'm not stopping to help him until my car is done. So I'll continue flashing cash in his face and hopefully he'll give in and sell. Dont get me wrong, I want nothing more than to see him get excited and WANT to finish the truck but for now, his priority's are else where. Quote Link to comment

Roostmonkey
I know...its embarassing to even admit he's my son.One way or another, the truck WILL get finished, its just a matter of time. It's indoors and will stay there, collecting dust. Quote Link to comment
