Questions about Centerforce Clutch Plate...

agentalpha

Recommended Posts

TY for reading.

One of the motors I bought has a CenterForce Dual Friction clutch plate on it.

I can tell, as it's thinner than stock, and painted/powder coated bright orange. It also has the centrifugal weights on the fingers.

I really want to re-use it, if I can, as it's a freebie, high-dollar part...

My questions are:

1) Do these require a special release bearing?

2) The release fingers are worn, more than I've seen on most other clutches.

Why? Maybe because of the PO trying to use a stock bearing?

Or having a bad master or slave cylinder, and it not releasing completely?

3) Would it still be OK/safe to use? The fingers are worn @ a MM or two, max, in the deepest worn area.

4) DO they rebuild their products?

Thanx in advance!!

why to stay a way from the center force !

when the pressure plate wears down the weights dont let the clutch engage all the way. plus all they are is a stock pp with weights and powder coated

The pressure plate doesn't wear down.

The clutch disk/friction disk/friction plate does.

The weights CAUSE it to ENGAGE, by way of centrifugal force.

That's why they are there, and why it's called a DUAL friction.

If it's THAT thin, you need a new flywheel,

cause the rivets have long been galling yours.

And you are an idiot, for letting it go that long.

So, that doesn't make any logical sense either, bro.

Second, the centerforce I have is

@ an inch(if not MORE so) THINNER

than the stock Pressure plate (I have one of those as well),

so that doesn't make sense, either.

I stated that clearly in my first post.

Can someone with REAL experience with these,

not regurgitating internet BS, folklore, and heresay chime in, PLEASE?

If you have never PERSONALLY owned one,

or never run one long enough to have any real logical input,

or a close, very mechanically inclined friend had one you can swear your life by,

please don't throw me illogical, poorly stated or expressed opinions.

I used to work on F-15's. See my pic?

IF you DON'T know what you are talking about,

or know fairly correct mechanical engineering terminology, physics, or logic,

or have enough respect for others to use correct pronunciation,

or bother using the friggin' shift key, I ain't hearing you.

I'm not some "drift" idiot punk

who spends more time on the internet dreaming and spreading BS than actually working on his car.

Or believing most everything he reads there.

And NO, I'm NOT calling anyone that, either.

Well, as it turns out F-15 boy, I had a Bachelors degree in Mathematics at the ripe young age of 18 years old. Then I operated nuclear power plants for 11 years. Now I work as a licensed fucking electrical test engineer. So, slow your roll a little there hot shot. You don't know who you are talking to. Also, if you are going to spout such holier-than-thou crap, edit your shit so you don't contradict yourself.

As I stated, I have always been told to avoid the centerforce stuff on datsuns. This comes from a very successful Datsun racer and car builder. Reason is the Nissan stuff is higher quality, last longer, with more clamp force, for less money and you don't have to deal with the thin centerforce disc wearing fast, which I have heard they do. Additionally, I'm working in out of town right now. There was one of these centerforce setups for sale locally. I'm about to do a transmission swap in my car, so I went to have a look at it. It is brand new in the box. When I asked the guy why he was selling it. He said, he got a deal on it. Then his mechanic told him to not run it. So, he bought the Nissan Motorsports unit and is selling the centerforce.

You asked for opinions. You got opinions. My opinion, buy the Nissan Competition clutch disc and cover. Not much out there better than that.

Really, I just re-read your post. If you're going to be the spelling and punctuation police, fix your shit first!

changed the incorrect 'pronunciation' to punctuation. made the mistake of using agentalpha's term.

For one thing I wasn't talking to you.

SO cool your fucking jets, SON.

If you want to be aggressive,

stop on by with your over-priced piece of paper on your wall that your parents bought ya.

Second, the correct term to you is "Daddy",

as your Mom is in my "Top 8" on MySpace.

I don't really give a crap what you THINK you have done.

Or where you worked.

If I told you were I have worked since the AF,

you might take a long, LONG trip with a few guys in Black Suits.

SO?

I'm also BUILDING an AC of my OWN design,

that will break records for fuel efficiency/overall build cost/speed.

SO?

I also am the chairman of the board for a small Indie record label.

SO?

I was invited TWICE to the Freemason Brotherhood, and turned it down, twice.

Have YOU been invited to join, EVER, even ONCE?

All that, NO over-priced/hyped framed piece of paper on my wall!!

SO FUCKING WHAT?

I was asking for Logic, you gave some.

TY.

Now go stand in the corner for throwing a tantrum, when I wasn't even speaking to YOU.

I can spell "punctuation" on the first try!

I travel often, even to the bay area. Let's see if you have the same disrespectful approach should you meet me in person at a show or swap meet or something. Do you really talk to people like that?

This is fine example of why most of the people who once contributed quality content to this forum no longer do so. I'll make sure I steer clear of your threads there hot shot.

I DO, when provoked.

I am respectful, ALWAYS, unless disrespected.

So don't play the victim, OK Bro?

DON'T START what you can't back up.

DON'T beat people over the head with your "accomplishments".

SOMEONE has ALWAYS seen/done/experienced/whatever more.

The truly WISE, know WHEN to listen.

Do what ya must, and I wish you the best...

I'm not playing a victim. What I'm saying is, I sincerely doubt you would say the same things to me, if you were to meet me. I come to the bay area from time to time. I was out there for six weeks earlier this year. There's a chance you could meet me, I'm in to Datsuns. I go to Datsun events.

I wasn't beating anyone over the head with my accomplishments. You were straight insulting another guy in this thread, who knows his shit and is very helpful! Fuck, my car wouldn't be together if it weren't for dislexicdime. What I was pointing out is, the former F15 mechanic thing doesn't mean your shit don't stink. It's also not a license to be an asshole to someone.

I can more than back what I'm saying - it is the truth.

Back to the topic at hand, you are probably going to get more info on the centerforce thing on hybrid z. Not a huge volume of z car info here, compared to there. They are jerks over there. Good luck.

No need to blast people who were genuinely responding to your questions.

Last post on this from me.

His ass would be banned for something like that. HybridZ is so heavy modded to keep it strictly tech.

Your rude comments and high and mighty attitude are uncalled for and unwelcome here.

If your an ASSHOLE no one would give a flying fuck if you

  1. invented a Datsun cloner

all in the same day.

You tell him Skib...

1) Do these require a special release bearing?

No

2) The release fingers are worn, more than I've seen on most other clutches.

Why? Maybe because of the PO trying to use a stock bearing?

Or having a bad master or slave cylinder, and it not releasing completely?

Because it's old and worn...or it takes so much force to compress the springs it causes premature wear? I don't know I'd like to see a pic...it could be designed that way for all we know

3) Would it still be OK/safe to use? The fingers are worn @ a MM or two, max, in the deepest worn area.

If you have to ask...

4) DO they rebuild their products?

You could email them and ask...they could answer all these questions...

Are you trying to say that you were working in some secret government 'Black Bag" covert agency? And slodat had better watch out?:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Get real 'agent'alpha.

and I work for Cobham ie: all that fancy shit you have to play with in the cockpit there, I made it. We all come from different backgrounds, jobs, locations and have different histories. Wrenching on jets isnt that impressive mate.

and thanks guys, sorry for the mini rant but such blatant assholeism pisses me off. I have met slodat and hes a hella chill guy, agentalpha's rude comments where absolutely uncalled for and went way over the line and if I where a mod I would have locked the thread and given him a temp ban before he could say "F15"

o my bad i i didnt realize you where working on a z

i was thinkind 4 cylender

i gues i explained it wrong. look at the pp's fingers see the weights if the fingers wear down the weights get in the way and the pp will not wok 100%.

i had this happen on my l16 i was driveing one day and the clutch started slipping tore it appart and the disk was hardly worn at all. i looked at the fingers on the pp and you could see they had warn out. when i asked a guy who has built a fair share of datsuns (nelson from altered motives) he told me that this was the reason. Also when i RESEARCHED wich clutch i wanted to putt behinde my new engine i kept seeing people giveing those clutch's bad reviews for the sam reason.

now i understand why city hunter got so flustrated with z guys being dicks . shaun you are right 510 guys are more chill

this is the reason i dont post on here as often any more. I guess i will just keep my inexpeariance to my self:D

I like to warn people before a ban, but in cases like this I just let them figure it out through peer pressure ;)
