DwayneOxford
'83 King cab, slips down easily. Is there a quick fix? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It almost certainly has an adjustment, something like vice grips I should imagine. I have a tilt steering out in the shed and will get out there today and look. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Loose hardware and missing springs can lead to sloppy tilt columns. Lack of lube on them can make them notchy. 1 Quote Link to comment
620slodat
I have read for other makes/models that you can take the pivot screw of the handle out, take the handle off, and put the handle back on one or more notches tighter, I don't know if this works for Datsuns or not, but if you do this and it works let us know. wayno
I had one that was loose, it has been so long that I do not remember how I fixed it, but I do remember that one of the bolts is reverse threaded, so don't break it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stinky
What 620 said... Take the lever off, and turn it a notch, or 2. If I remember right, the nut is a reverse thread....righty-loosey, lefty-tighty. It is a 12mm or a 13mm head. You may have to take the plastic under the column off...don't remember 3 Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
Rule number one. When getting into your truck.Don't make a habit of grabbing your steering wheel and pulling down. The tilt bolts need to be loosened and moved. The spot where they are is wore out.Like Stinky has said.Just like when your working on your engine, watch where you put your other hand. You could grab something and tear it up.We all have down it.Or you can tape the tilt lever where it wont move.Tape and coat hangar fixes everything.I have never moved my steering wheel with the tilt lever.Don't have no reason to.But I am a pro at burning plastic.Got a Degree in it. datzenmike
I just don't get a jelly belly that needs tilt. I worked for GM back in the '70s. Monte Carlos had a swivel bucket seat so fat assed big belly fucks could get in and out of that 'old man's' car. 3 Quote Link to comment
Satisaii
My grandfather had one of those Monte Carlos. I can only remember it for the swivel seats. He fit the bill for being fat and old at the time. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
IIRC that was '74. Quote Link to comment

Upholstered in the right color, it would feel like chairs in a Las Vegas casino circa '80s. 2 Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
I bet the shipping cost would be over $100. Quote Link to comment

Thomas Perkins
My little brother had a 442 with them seats in it.https://www.mecum.com/lots/HA0415-207650/1976-oldsmobile-cutlass-442/ Edited February 9, 2023 by Thomas Perkins Quote Link to comment
Stinky
T-birds had a deal where the column tilted to the right, over to the center of the car....like 2' to the right. I never move my tilt/ AND, I bet most of us have this bad habit, from Perkins... Stoffregen Motorsports
Yeah, that's probably the one thing that wears them out the most. Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
I had that problem.Didn't realize it was caused by me getting in and grabbing the steering wheel and pulling down. But I did remove all that junk on the steering column and where them 2 screws are, it has dug into it and they need to be put in a different spot and I have taped tilt,it will now not move, and I don't grab the steering wheel no more and it hasn't moved since. That was a waste putting tilt on these 720's.We have tilt on the Toyota forklift's at work, you have to push the tilt up in order to get the battery cover off to change the battery. My wife's car has tilt on it and when you remove the key's it tilts up automatically. And the seat goes all the way back.Bad ass car.You can hit the door lock button on the key fob and hold it a few seconds and all the windows go down including the moon roof. Stoffregen Motorsports
I agree. Tilt on most older trucks is lame. I often delete tilt columns from the vintage trucks I build. Sometimes I get lucky and find OEM non-tilt columns, and sometimes I install aftermarket. Quote Link to comment

Of course the my truck has no tilt wheel so maybe it's less of a concern for me 😉 Quote Link to comment
