Sastis
Excuses me sir, this isn't a build thread. It's a FAP thread... Quote Link to comment
RandyWanger
Loved reading this one too and looking for more information. I too have a set of those Napoleon Bacca wing mirrors, possibly the coolest mirror available. Can't see much out of them though  Admiring Erics work again, he's got talent and patience. 1 Quote Link to comment

five1oh
You can't buy new Wat's and NOT throw them on for a mock up. I apologize in advance for these TERRIBLE pictures lol. five1oh
See that S20 on there for about 50k? I haven't. $50k is cheap.....I am assuming it will go much higher or not sell. The last one I saw went up to $68k but didn't hit reserve. Quote Link to comment
five1oh
So I reached out to Eric because I was missing some pictures.....there are likely hundreds if not thousands more on his laptop but I wanted to show you the repair of the tail section. Because the rust was so bad I not only lost the tail panel but also the metal that surrounds the tail panel. This post will highlight some of the steps that Eric took to replace the metal sections that the tail panel is welded to. Like all areas of the car Eric is careful to reattach the panels using the factory spot welds. In order to do this and keep the factory seams these repairs had to happen first. Enjoy! five1oh
One other thing I KNEW I was missing pictures on was the passenger side wheel tub. So if you were to look at the stock wheel tub and where most cars with GTR flares have the inner and outer walls joined together you would notice that the height underneath the flare is LOWER than the highest point in the middle of the tub (Hope that makes sense). This means that the metal section needing to be welded in to join the two is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. If you haven't noticed I love to ride my cars LOW. Because of this I asked Eric to take the HIGHEST point in the tub (turned out to be near the middle) and cut the outer body to the same height so essentially the tub would be level all the way out to just under the flare. Notice in the pics below that the added metal section is a few inches wide. By doing this my car will be able to be lower and tuck more tire with less rubbing issues. :) by five1oh2010, on Flickr by five1oh2010, on Flickr IMG_0279 by five1oh2010, on Flickr Check out that tuck! And I'm pretty sure my wheel and tire height will be less than this mock up.... Soundline
I actually know a guy in Seattle that dropped $50k on one of these and it was as rusted as yours. He gave up. The car ended up getting parted out and the frame crushed and scrapped. He felt the time/money to properly restore it would be a net financial loss. I admire your dedication to complete this build. I’d much rather see you take 2+ years to do it than to melt it down to have someone make a Prius out of the steel. 1 Quote Link to comment

Before I bought mine I saw a couple builds that were purchased around the $50k mark and they all had similar issues like mine. That is why I decided to go the route of buying one that already had visible issues. While I have to admit I had a number in my head of what my completed car would cost after restoration........and I totally blew that out of the water! Some by my own decisions to get awesome parts but also some by the SHEER cost of replacement panels and ANYTHING hako related. Not to mention commission fees and shipping charges. When I am done I will know all of it will be worth it. At least I am not draining my money on cars that are worthless AND this is the DREAM car. So totally worth it. 4 Quote Link to comment

UnderControl
That sinking feeling at the realization that even the fall back version of my top seated bucket list car is largely unobtainable. Looks great so far. Looking forward to continued updates. Quote Link to comment

metalmonkey47
CONGRATS MAN! I don't know how this build slipped past me. I feel obligated to mention: I have two OE C10 Skyline Fender Badges (Literally the ones that just say Skyline) If you're interested. I think they're technically for a 4-door, but it's a badge. 2 Quote Link to comment
nl320what
Definitely a dream car of mine of having a classic skyline and restoring it correctly. I have a similar back-story when I was 13 I seen a red 63 Datsun NL320 on a car-lot but waited many years later to find one. I had a 64 Ranchero as my first car, then came a 74 610 Waggy auto as my daily and a 73 620 lowered at the same time. Thats when the Datsun Disease hit and over 140 cars now later in 10 years! My signature has my page with a car list :) So all the rust and crusty metal can be cut and reformed with new, nothing says it has to be OE paneling, would be too easy, take your time and do it right, it is going to pay off and you have my admiration by going through it all! 1 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
So since I am having the carbs for SHAKOTN rebuilt by Josel I decided to pull the 44's I have set aside for the Hako out of storage so he can take a look at them. I had previously bought rebuild kits as well as new hardware. five1oh
Only update I have is that I am having a baby boy (child #3) in the next few weeks so the office needed to be reclaimed for a makeshift baby room. I went through all my parts and I have been slowly bringing more stuff home from Eric's since the car will be assembled at my house once paint is done. It was nice to find things I forgot I bought and also have an opportunity to start restoring the components while I wait for the shell. Last thing I want once I get the shell home is to be delayed because I wasn't ready. That is all....
