A couple things. After work yesterday I was able to complete the testing on the fog lights and I am happy to say the wires in the factory harness by the switch were CORRECT!!! So awesome, basically my grill is now wired up using the factory harness AND factory rare switch. I still need to purchase another amber bulb for the passenger side signal indicator but I couldn't be more thrilled!! Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr After I finished that my friend Peter showed up to help me get the motor back together. We installed the new NISMO head gasket and torqued down the head and proceeded to check for leaks. I am sad to say that after 5 minutes of watching there was the SMALLEST bead beginning near cylinder #2. It was so slow it never actually dripped but probably would have. I am so disappointed but have decided I am not pulling it apart again. (not now anyways). I am hoping with a heat cycle it will seal up or perhaps I will run some Iron Tite through it. Obviously if it continues or runs too hot or water in the oil I will take apart again and probably surface the head. I got a new distributor a couple days ago but I am still waiting for the ignition control module to fire it up. Should be doing that Monday or Tuesday. So I finally decided to finish touch up on my safari grill and get them back on the car. First I tested the wires in the harness that are up by the factory switch and found power when the lights were on!!!!!!!!!! The other wire that attaches to the switch was green with a red stripe which matches the wires that come out of the harness by each fog light. Unfortunately I was unable to wire the switch as I ran out of time yesterday. I was able to get the grill put back together and plug in the fog lights as well as mount the grill and headlight surrounds. SO HAPPY with how it turned out and can't wait to test the switch tonight. I am getting SO close now. A friend is coming over today and we are going to get the motor back together and check for leaks. Unfortunately my new distributor did not come with the electronic module so I am still awaiting delivery on that. VERY VERY close though, fingers crossed I won't have leaks tonight.....I am pretty confident but we will see. My NISMO gasket is here!!!!!! Should be on in the next few days! Tedman - On the back of the motor there are TWO coolant holes in the block AND head. A large one and then a circle one that go to the same chamber. The gasket ONLY has the circle hole. This is the ONLY thing I notice that is missing on the gasket. I was going to trust NISMO and not modify the gasket because of all the issue I have already had......what did you do? Punch a hole? I really don't want to......... So I wasn't very happy with how my hand painted headlight surrounds turned out so I decide to redo them. This time I broke down and bought some NICE 3M tape instead of the cheapo blue painters tape that didn't stick. I started by scratching out the old paint (didn't stick very well) and then masked EVERY part of the light, painted it with flat black spray paint and removed the tape. All in all it took 3 hours and my fingers hurt LOL. (trimming the masking tap with a razor). It was a very tedious process but I am glad I spent the time. They look great even though I wasn't able to get a good pic. I am sure once they are on the car and its outside the pics will come out better: by five1oh2010, on Flickr by five1oh2010, on Flickr by five1oh2010, on Flickr by five1oh2010, on Flickr Also, another thing I have had for a very LONG time is a factory trunk rubber mat. I am sure it will look good cleaned up but I am back and forth on running it as I would need to cut out the battery box. What are your thoughts? Should I be nostalgic or go for carpet like my previous car (pic below): Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr P5290043 by five1oh2010, on Flickr

Floor mat and seat belt time 😍 and again I would love to someday soon purchase a NICE set of used NISSAN seat belts.....mine are from 1971 based on the tag on the belt. These work but eventually I would like a nicer set......also I DO have the shoulder pieces but I think I am missing the clip to attach to these lowers. Here is my super awesome seat repair kit.........................a little upholstery paint 😊. Can't afford to reupholster so this will do for now. At least it is all black now. During the whole install I worked at cleaning the seats and they are getting better and better. Just need to keep at it with soap and water and they will be much nicer. by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr I am planning on at least having the rear seat repaired around the latch (new vinyl sewn in with foam) since I still have to get the wheel tub covers made. Also talking to a friend he mentioned there may be some vinyl iron on patch kits that may look better on the areas where chunks are missing in my seats. The good news is the areas where there are wears (holes) appear to be on flat sections of vinyl which wouldn't look as out of place with a patch. Does anyone have experience? Interested in how it turned out.

My carpet kit came in last week so it was time to remove the seats and install the carpet. Super happy with how it turned out because I ended up going with a cheaper carpet kit because I was able to custom order it to fit RHD. Turned out great and super happy. Call me nostalgic but I am using the factory sound deadening that is 50 years old.......a cool guy I met named Ryan hooked me up with it for free. It was still in great shape so I vacuumed it and put it under the carpet. Soooooooo in addition to the carpet I am using a set of SUPER AWESOME Karo floor mats that I got from Japan that was specifically designed for the hakosuka. The quality is AMAZING. It is a 5 piece kit but I pulled out the rear center section after installing because it appeared to get in the way of the front seat belt mounts. I am a little scared to run them in this car because I don't want to ruin them prior to having the skyline finished. We will see... Thanks Tedman! Loved seeing your car on my IG feed at the meetup over the weekend. SUPER clean car and glad the drive didn't give you any issues. To answer your question the timing cover does sit flush with the block. I should know in a couple days if it will seal up. Thanks for the kind words. On that note.........more interior pics coming NOW!

Yes I have. Both are fine, and they didn't leak when pulled apart.

So now the sucky news..........😢 My buddy Eric came down again and we assembled the motor back together......remember how I messed up the rotation? So basically we got the engine back to TDC and mounted the timing chain and cam gear and then wedged in the stopper so we could pull the head back off. Once off we put the front cover on first with new seals. We then started attaching accessories and proceeded to install the NEW head gasket (THIS is the SECOND head gasket I purchased from Rebello Racing). Basically got the whole motor back together and started to fill with oil and water. Once again the "modified' head gasket leaked water out of the side of the block. I am honestly speechless as to how a reputable shop does this and does not have issues. I highly doubt this is how they build their race motors but HOW could they sell me something they don't run themselves. The gasket looked terrible after modification. Not sure why or how I didn't see this sooner but through some minor research I found that the NISMO gasket is STILL available on eBay!!! To help others who may be having the same situation the part number is 11044-A7651. I ordered two and they should be in next week. They are made for an L-series with an 88.5 bore which is what I have. Crossed fingers next time will work. Hopefully third time is a charm...stay tuned... by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr

So yesterday was a very bittersweet day (motor built and still issues (more in a later post) but interior getting there 😂................got my seats installed and finished the lower lining of vinyl. Turned out awesome and I already have to remove the seats because my carpet kit arrived LOL. Oh well I will finally clean them up and paint them before putting them back in. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the interior turned out with the "full cushion interior" from the 1800SSS! Just missing the door panels...................................................................... One part I purchased over TEN! years ago and am just now going to use is the coupe center console!!!!!!!! You can't even find these now and when you do $$$$$$$. So glad I scored it all those years ago. It has some minor damage but I will be able to make it look good again. Anyways on to the pics!
