I heard it's not really a problem but I was told it would be a good Idea to have the block sonic tested for cracks.... Might be worth it looking into just to be sure.... Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
I have mine bored to 88mm, and I see a few of them bored to 89mm in Japan. But I also did a half fill with HardBlock, to support the bores. Did mine with custom pistons, and 140mm (FJ length) rods. Quote Link to comment

distributorguy
The Nismo gasket is good for about 88.5" piston size. At 89 I'd be afraid of hitting it after torque, as the one I have on the shelf measures 88.9 uncrushed. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
yes you can go 87mm I went 83 to 85 on my L16. I dont see what your getting at with this motor, get a L or Z 22 block Quote Link to comment
hosestop@msn.com
Nissan comp manual said to sonic test if exceed 2 mm so that is ok ,showed machinist. Quote Link to comment

Ya 88mm is probably max what nismo says is the safe limit for the block ... you definately don't wanna hit the head gasket.... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You can't hit the HG with an L18 because the piston doesn't go high enough, however an exposed fire ring will get hot enough to become an ignition source and it will erode away and fail. Quote Link to comment
hosestop@msn.com
I have a few Nismo head gaskets stashed , I will make sure it is close to 87mm , Also Mike I left this part out the L18 has an O ringed block for a turbo in the day or high compression motor .( I will take some pics when bback from machine shop) considering a 219 with a fat cam can't decide was going SU for a good driver but now considering some 45mm webers but my daughter has to drive during summer vacation from college, I recently inherited a 69 4dr that this set up is going in now has full suspension and 5spd. 1968 rear clip.will post oucs. Stoffregen Motorsports
L18's can even go to 89mm if your machine shop knows what they're doing. The later M2 block has more material, so if you have a choice of blocks, use that one. Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
L18's can even go to 89mm if your machine shop knows what they're doing. Mine didn't... Damn bores are all angled towards the front by .005" on a 6" square. Idiot Pete Kotzur (Kotzur Racing Engines, San Antonio, TX) didn't have the block setting in the machine evidentially. Thankfully I checked before putting the head on. Guessing 'merican V-shit iron isn't effected by piss poor machine work. Now, I either have to try to get someone to straiten them with only a .5mm over bore, and new custom pistons, or find another L18 block, and start over. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
If you lived nearby Id give you mine(L18 block) Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
.29" is almost 5/16 of an inch. Are you sure you didn't mean .029" 1 Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
Yeah, I kind of assumed he meant .29mm. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I have never worked with a machine shop that measured in millimeters. Industry standards in the USA are in inches...dammit. 3 Quote Link to comment
