Z-train
Was that a resto of a resto,or was it a resto from the original wartime paint? Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Was that a resto of a resto,or was it a resto from the original wartime paint? I'm sure that the Memphis Belle was "refreshed" before she made the WW2 bond drive tour [one of the first 50 mission survivors], so no, most likely at least one repaint before this one! 2 Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Reason I was asking is I saw some questionable and humorous lettering. The crew weight was listed at 1200lbs.That means every crew member could weigh no more than 120lbs. And then the names. Both the bombardier and the navigator are Captains? Not a chance. MOST pilots were Lt's. A few Captains. That's why it suggests the paint was from the war bond tour where they promoted the entire crew prior to the tour. 3 Quote Link to comment
Jesse C.
Was that a resto of a resto,or was it a resto from the original wartime paint? Sadly, most of the paint they removed was from a couple of previous repaints the bird got while on outdoor display in Memphis. They left the artwork on the nose so folks know who she is. No, with a few exceptions, most all war bond birds where flown around the country in their actual paint and markings, only later did they make them censor risque artwork. And she was the second, not the first, to complete 25 Missions with the same crew. The first was Hell's Angels, but that name was not very desirable for a war bond tour. 3 Quote Link to comment
