Scgreen620
Has any one used the crystalline automobile film for any one of your cars? It's a window tint but clear .. Comments? Pictures ? If anybody has used it ... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If clear..... what's it do? 1 Quote Link to comment
510freak
Might protect from sideglass shatter. But, if you have to squint, tint. Keep it legit for you live Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
All glass but the windshield is tempered to shatter into tiny non lethal 1/4" tiles when broken. Glass is harder than steel and it would scratch on the outside and on the inside from rolling up and down.. Quote Link to comment
Scgreen620
It's like window tint but this tint is clear i want to use it for heat reflection ... It gets pretty hot inside Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Limo tint on the backglass and 1/4 glass and max legal on doors. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It's like window tint but this tint is clear i want to use it for heat reflection ... It gets pretty hot inside To reflect it has to reflect. Clear is the same as a greenhouse, lets everything in and traps the warmth. You need dark to block the light like blinds yet allow you to see through. Some office glass is covered with a fine layer of gold which acts like a mirror and reflects a percentage of light away. As Bill said, dark as the law allows all round and as far forward as your shoulders or again what ever the law allows so check. You might be allowed some approved tint on the front glass. graveltrapp
When I lived in Florida it was mandatory. we had limo tint all around with double on the backs and a big fat strip across the windshield. Always helped that my buddies older brother owned a tinting business Now with age, my eyes much prefer as much light as I can throw there ways, not to mention tired window felts and channel scuff the crap out of the tint making it look like poo. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This 3M film may have some reflecting properties, so I won't say it does not work. But from the description of 'clear' I would think not. Maybe it's a polarized film? Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Maybe X275PL510 ought to look into this as a coating for his Lexan front windshield? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It would have to be harder than lexan to provide any scratch resistance, but yeah, maybe. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Whatever happened to that mirror/chrome tint from back in the 70's/80's? We used to have a full size Chevy van with that on all the back windows... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yeah was thinking of that too. Only down side is it affects the car esthetics. Choose look cool or be cool. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Yeah was thinking of that too. Only down side is it affects the car esthetics. Choose look cool or be cool. It goes pretty well with the "Free candy" vinyl sticker on the side of the van... Quote Link to comment

This unique technology is the reason a clear film can reject more heat than darker films, without changing your car's appearance. Solar heat comes from two primary sources, the visible light you can see and the infrared light you can feel. Crystalline window films reject up to 97% of the sun's heat producing infrared light and block up to 60% of the heat coming through your windows. These industry-leading, spectrally-selective films are designed to keep you cool, comfortable and protected. Designed to maintain the appearance of your car, Crystalline films allow up to 90% of the light into your vehicle. Because these films are non-metallized, you can be assured of zero interference with GPS or cell phone signals. That's what the web site says Quote Link to comment

Z-train
I've been reading a LOT about that 3M is not exactly the best "return on investment" product. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Even if it rejected 60% of the infrared heat it would be an improvement. Cost must be through the roof if not a good return on investment. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Mike-a lot of the articles had the gist of "3M thinks their film is "gold plated".If ya follow............ Quote Link to comment
graveltrapp
Must have been a by product of there NASA involvement Also, they are probably not looking at cars or there owners in this Tax Bracket, Maybe with time, we will see the technology and price come back down to earth.
