Mr. 510 is right. When the car was first built they were saying it was a 67 so that it could compete in a pre-68 category for historic races. Don't know why that was done, but that's how it was. In a recent Bring a Trailer add they mistakenly referred to it as a 67, thought the current seller correctly states the year in the Ebay ad.

Technically a coupe shouldn't be allowed to compete in a historic race here to begin with since they never actually raced them in the US... but there are a lot of cars that they fudge the rules for in order to fill out the field at those events. So long as nobody breaking the rules is dominating the races they typically will let you slide.

What all makes the SSS different? I know it has a different head and carbs, roofline, gauge bezel, and tail lights. Were there any other performance modifications or even body differences?

Few other little things in addition to what you mentioned...

From what I can recall, 4.11 diff instead of 3.90. Full length console. Package tray under glove box. Door panels that go all the way up to the glass instead of stopping 3" short. Cubby holes inside rear door panels. On the coupe, a fold-down rear seat. Fancier two-tone seats/door panels. Different chrome moldings on the windshields and side glass. Different grills. Different badges (naturally).

There's honestly maybe 30-40 little differences.

SOVREN has changed there rules to allow later cars in the last few years to increase the number of participants. They used to field 400 pre 1970 cars in their big event here in Washington and this year they had 180. It's nice to see the Z cars running now.
