510farmer
hey folks here is my 70 4dr the car is clean inside and out, was well taken care of but a oil leak was neglected from the PO and has just coated everything on the suspension and steering linkage i cant say that i hate grease,i work in a oil refinery! but i hate grease on my car. so this project, is going to be pulling the motor and replacing seals and cleaning the bay and repaint and clean and replace steering and suspension bushings and such where needed and fix any other lil things that i come across so this will be my project well here she is up on stands first things first drain all her fluids oil/rad while fluids are draining, tackle this PO battery containment system also the tray and pan are in real good shape just a lil surface rust get rid of the PO stereo crap and battery jerry rig next removing the hood make sure to marks where it lines up on the hinge look ma no top next up radiator and fan cowl next the grill this is what i do to keep all screws and bolts in place with there respectable parts ziplock and written ID before the radiator can come out had to remove the the automatic transmission cooling lines make sure that you have a catch bin they are going to have fluid in them here is the radiator look what i found ouch well thats it for today thx farmer Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
Nice to see a build thread started for this and also glad (for your sake) to see the battery tiedown go! You can try a brush with strong bristles on it to try and straighten the radiator fins, or I also find a small flat blade screwdriver does a good job as well. Boring process but sometimes worth it. I like the aircleaner  Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If just bent over, see an air conditioner repairman for a fin comb. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
When you finally [no telling how many years this can stretch for very good causes] get around to hooking up the automatic transmission cooling hoses, invest in Voi Shan [tapered seat seals] when you reconnect. 40 plus or minus years take their tolls on the integrity of the faces of the female and male fittings on the radiator and the mating hoses. Keep up the good work, the more Datsuns the better on the road! I have been driving my stable for so long that most of my neighbors have bought Datsuns as the "first car" for their new teen age drivers. Got to get them off to a good start. Quote Link to comment
510farmer
well here we are with some more progress the radiator looks like something got in between the fan and the core looks like it had a some type of repair, but i dont like it so its going to be boiled out and repaired if needed next out the starter next alternator wires being labeled and removed now the heater lines make sure to use a catch bin they should have fluid in them so pretty much everything on the passenger side needed to be un hooked or removed has been done so now to the a/c unit and stand pulley first to get the belt off belts off the pulleys but will not clear the timing gauge oh well,,i will get it off when the motor comes out a/c brace and stand removal well a/c is off the brace and remember always bag and label well thats it for today thx farmer Quote Link to comment

Dirttrack510
I somehow missed that this is an a/c car. That's very cool. I hope you keep it functional. :) Quote Link to comment
510farmer
well this is a lil update not that much work and being 108 here just makes working in the garage unbearable so here you go and yes yes the A/C will stay it is more a item of survival than a convenience here in this town took the fan off label wires to proper spots misc throttle linkage removal exhaust header bolts and of course one had to break thats it nothing much but it is to damn hot thx farmer Quote Link to comment
510farmer
Ok well it's been a long time since I updated this thread and so far I have the motor pretty much rebuilt just a few things to tidy up Have removed pretty much everything in the bay getting ready to paint Front suspension on both sides out Cross member out Just waiting on a few more parts here and there, but I'm having problems with removing my steering linkage I want to just remove it from the steering box arm I've removed the pin and nut, but I can't get the linkage to fall Do I need a pickle fork, some heat and a hammer Any help I would post pics but my cpu does not like photo fu@ket I will try to figure something else for pics Thx farmer Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
If you're keeping the engine driven fan, and the AC, I would suggest getting a 7-blade fan from a 620 instead of that 4 blade. Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
This 4 door is ridiculously clean but, you can tell from farmers build he is a perfectionist. Looks good man Quote Link to comment

I'm going to try photo f@ucket again to see if I can get some pics Thx farmer Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I'll look into that, but aren't 620 fan clutch? Not the earlier ones. I think some other models used them too? Early Z maybe? Looks like a Roadster used one too, and you can get those, but no idea if the bolt pattern is the same... Quote Link to comment
Draker
These were also on the early 510s. Just make sure the water pump bolt spacing is the same. Mine were not.. and I am now running a 4 blade. Quote Link to comment
