Aaron Datsun
Two Things. 1. I love your build every time I catch back up on it. Such a cool bit of work. Keep it up! 2. I like that your garage is messy in some of your pictures I swear everyone seems to have these clean garages, but mine is always messy, so I am glad to see someone else with a less than perfect garage (please don't take this the wrong way) Keep up the great work man! 1 Quote Link to comment

Atomic
Cheers for the kind words guys! I got the injector pockets done. So I should start modifying the intake manifold next: 1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Time for more pics! This time I had the tranny mount done, so now the motor and transmission sits in the car within 0.3 degree of angle relative to the ground, so almost straight, had to cut the tunnel a bit more, and need to cut some more. But now I can take the measurements and send the driveshaft to the shop to be shortened and balanced  I used the original datsun mount and the original mounting spot. And original volvo 740 transmission mount that has a big rubber block on it and M10 screw, here is how it went: And last but not least   wroooooom wroooom, tsutsutsutsu  1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
My cousin wanted to use the garage so I had a chance to take some photos again with the car outside: 2 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
This has me leaning very hard towards steel flares again... That's because it looks freaking amazing! I love these vw steel flares. 1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Got the transmission tunnel almost ready, had to leave for work. Will do more this weekend, probably cut out the driveshaft tunnel and find a place for the middle bearing Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Almost finished with the driveshaft tunnel: So the middle bearing is on its place and I can take the final measurements and send it to the company who's going to shorten/balance it. One problem tho, because I had to modify the transmission tunnel, the heater core wont fit anymore, so I'll have to think about some modifications for it, more pics tomorrow o/ 1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Got it almost done, my mig had some issues at the end so I couldn't quite make it, probably just burned one fuse down or something: Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Done with the tunnel: Also made CAD drawings of the intake manifold flanges: I can upload the CAD file later for everyone to download  Quote Link to comment
sebpv
thicken the ears a it ;) 1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
thicken the ears a it ;) I just put oversized holes to it, m12 holes while it needs to be m8. I'm going to have them cut without the top 2 holes Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Also I cannot thicken them because it will hit the exhaust flanges, there is not much room between them Quote Link to comment
sebpv
or give more meat below the bolt hole? Quote Link to comment
Atomic
I'll edit the bolt holes a bit smaller when I can and upload the file. Now I was drawing a template for my dash, because the old woodgrain pattern is toasted so I'm going to make a new one, maybe with other pattern, here is the sketch, can upload that too later. Atomic
Welded the car again today, but mostly the time consuming part was when I was designing flanges and the fighting with the dash sketch, took a good 4+ hours to get things alright: Cleaned the welds and sprayed some zinc paint on top, everything looks much better with some paint  Also welded the floor from beneath, there was some unwelded seams that I wanted to reinforce: I need to find time to get the driveshaft to the machining shop someday, needs to be cut about 30+ cm. Also welded the missing L shape of the 'rocker-panel': Here was the handmade version of the dash: Also made drawings for strut tower brace flange, noticed that the bolt pattern isn't circular: So I made few modifications and got this design for the flanges: Here is the 'almost final' version of the dash testfitted, now I need to think if I want wood grain vinyl to it: Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
FYI, I have some billet ones we already had made for another project... Just saying... ^_^ Also made CAD drawings of the intake manifold flanges: I can upload the CAD file later for everyone to download  Quote Link to comment
Atomic
FYI, I have some billet ones we already had made for another project... Just saying... ^_^ That's a long quote  And by billet, you mean billet aluminium? or? Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Made the heater fit, just cut off the small section that distributes the air for your feet: And then I need to start planning where do I want to take the turbo water inlet: Also sanded the radiator and painted the frame with zinc paint + some paint I had laying around, need to buy more black paint: Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
That's a long quote Fixed it. ^_^ And by billet, you mean billet aluminium? Yes sir. Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Fixed it. ^_^ Yes sir. I might be interested, I'm leaning towards stainless steel like with my exhaust manifold tho... And depends how much are you asking for them? send me a pm or something with pictures Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Bought more black paint and painted the radiator with it: Also finished restoring the heater unit with repainted parts and new foam: Also test fitted the dash lid and center console. Sadly one of them needs to be cut a little to fit properly with new tunnel, still haven't decided which one: Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Painted the first half with industrial dark grey 2k paint: Tomorrow I'll probably use some body glue to seam the welds and make it watertight. After that I can start to attach things to the firewall 1 Quote Link to comment
Atomic
Got some more done today, Found the heater control unit in a box I had laying around, and then the bezel for it in a different box. I'm guessing they're both from the B310 wagon I stripped down, fits nicely: Then I glued the weld seams with Black Sikaflex, really liked how the paint turned out to be, also pleased that the glue will go well with the dark grey paint: Also fitted the heater unit to its place and seems like I need to modify the hose a bit: Also test fitted the headlights, even tho they're not going to stay there, I ordered a pair of Golf Mk1 headlights with angeleyes: 1 Quote Link to comment
