Cpl620
Gahhh, ill have to look. Though I dont think thats original paint, ill have to see. Im so torn on getting it still. Spend that money on the truck. Or have another enevtiable thing to throw my money at, because the first thing I would probably do is slam it on some nice wheels. I cant seem to leave well enough alone. Quote Link to comment
Jester
If its a good runner and could be a daily, leave it alone! It's ok, I'm the same way. haha 1 Quote Link to comment

finney
looks like you are stacking tacks? fastest way to improve welds is in the prep work, hit everything with a flap disk before welding, make a huge difference, that and correct welder settings. What you using? 2 Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
Useing a hobart 110 with 80/20 just playing with diffeent types of lines. Something that gets a good bond. Im finding out the angles and everything play a role in what you can and cand do too. Just did a zig zag type of thing here. Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
searching for more wheels in my spare time right now. think ill dish out the cash for one of these when its all said and done. No update lately due to a stacked school schedule and work. Just saving cash right now, so when i get time to finish this, its all going to be slapped together pretty quick. Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
talking to some of the UZ guys. having some doubts about keeping with the UZ. thinking about just biting the bullet and going the LSX route. might be cheaper in the long run.... aftermarket is cheaper for the LS+larger. I could spend about the same amount on the engine and transmission that it would cost me for transmission and conversion plate for the UZ. its less "sacrilege" since everyone swaps LSX into everything. any reasons im missing on not to do it? '70dime
Whats the Size / Weight comparison between the UZ and LSx. Quote Link to comment
willz
ive been pricing out ls1's lately...... ''/ Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
Since its not an OHC configuration its not as wide or tall as the 1UZ. The intake is also a lot more compact on the LS. The weight is the only diffrence, adding around 50 to 80lbs tops in place of the 1UZ. Quote Link to comment
finney
1uz with IBTS much cooler Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
ITBs were never in the plans. And im trading cool for practicality. Its a little more to set this up initally, but it a lot cheaper to build an LS down the road. Its going to get boosted sooner or later. 1 Quote Link to comment

Spoona_Jay21
I love this build, and personally I think you should keep with the 1UZ if your goin to do it, or do a VH41DE out of a Q45. keep it JDM man. the reason all the drifters do LS's is because of mad power for cheap, and IMO it is ruining the scene.... 1 Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
First, great progress! I cannot believe I've been missing this. You just inspired the shit outvh of me. Second, I couldn't get the dimensions to work for me with a vh engine so I went vg. I also envy your budget/tools/planning ahead. Most of my build has been super low cost and done with scrap iron, so I kinda went with what was available and planned around that. Great work man! Keep it up. I'm gonna go work on cars now. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24147-southeast-texas-king-cab/ 2 Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
Yeah, originally I wanted to keep it all nissan/datsun. But the deal on the UZ was too good to pass up. Plus I saw a local shop putting out 1200hp with it. It was only later I found the cost to make that power on it compared to an LS. But yeah, I left enough room in the design to change engines down the road. Well see what happens. engine space i knew i was going to have a hard time with, so i took an idea from another build like this on a 521 and just extended out from the frame. gave me a bit more width to play with at the bottom towards the frame. And thanks rapha! I was wondering why I didnt see your post around, need some updates. I remember checking it out and wanting to do the tower with pipe stock you used. It looks a lot cleaner like that. The planning is what really helped me. My budget is smaller than you probably think, and my tools are pretty sub par, the most expensive thing is my 110 Hobart, haha. i spent maybe $500 total on material, its going to cost another $250 to finish the roll cage, then thats it. most of the other cost are just in the essentials that every build like this would need (suspension and drive/power tran parts and so on) Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
slowly it all arrives. i have to do more cutting to fit the cell. i didnt have enough room =( 1 Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
So i guess my adapter plate for the transmission is going to take about 3 more weeks to get here...and im still waiting for my transmission to arrive. I need that to finish the cross bracing and new transmission supports that will be applied to the frame. Other than that ive been slacking while waiting for parts to arrive. Started to paint and apply new bushing and ball joints in my free time. nothing major. ill go out and get some more DOM bent tomorrow to finish more of the front towers. that purple will bee the accent color (suspension linkage, brake calipers, sway bars, lug nuts, in conjunction with the cream and dark brown/black base colors of the truck. 2 Quote Link to comment
Cpl620
shit been on back order for 3 weeks and the company didnt thing about giving me a call or email. BS! anyways, i feel like making some progress since i have a week off. updates tomorrow. Quote Link to comment

Cpl620
WOOOO, got the transmission in today. that thing is loooong. with how much further back im setting the engine and how long the tranny is, i may have to make some special shifter linkage. since that came in i decided it was time to stop slack-assing and get these front tubes bent. I wanted to do 3 compound bends up front to give it a nice smooth look, and to make the joining surfaces a bit closer to a 90 degree but fuck it. less bends, more strength? im just going to gusset all the tube connections to the frame and maybe triangulate where i can. im not going to reconnect the outer tubes back down to the frame because they are going to get bolted by a plate to the roll cage inside that will be connected to the frame. Brake calipers and the transmission are off to get glass blasted since i dont have the adapter kit yet. once there back i can go ahead and fab up the last bits of the outer frame. Cpl620
so the frame was twisted ever so slightly. so i put a fe hundred lbs on it. put it on two jacks, and 2 pump jacks and got it level. Im not sure if i should cut the frame to release the tension or just brace it since its only slight. not even sure where i would cut the frame to relieve the tension... anyways. got most of the suspension stuff painted up, and the front towers are almost complete. I need to complete the gussets on the whole frame, and cross bracing, cut, grind, and cap a few spots, and add some plates to connect to the roll cage. after that its paint time and i can start to run all the fuel and break lines. then its cab time! ALREADY!?! 2 Quote Link to comment

Cpl620
slammed in the solid subframe bushings today. then i started to brace the frame a bit. I want two more that go from that forward bar to the rear brace points forward to the subframe, but i need the transmission for that. i think the point that the tube meets will be in line with the drive shaft, and i dont want that... Ill get it back tomorrow and take my measurements. i need to finish this bracing before i take off all the shit i have loaded on the frame.Other than that i was going to start the gussets, but its raining and im tired. i also need to grab more material for the gussets, so meh, im lazy today. goal is to get this thing drivable for canby.
