wayno
I bought this at the wrecking yard today, I thought the little black box had the componets needed to make it complete/work, but I was wrong, what did I leave behind, and where do I find it in the car? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
That's not a 1980 model, it's the earlier type 1976-1978. All you got was the distirbutor and the trigger. You forgot EI part -- the big box under the dash. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Here is the EI box for 1978 1976-1977 look all silvery with separate screws for indivdual wires. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
I believe you can still use those parts. You get a HEI module from a GM car, and you hook that up to the distributor trigger wires, and the coil. The HEI module need to be put on a heat sink. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yep, you don't need the box, you can use any external EI box. You can use a Hitachi matchbox as long as you bolt it to a heat sink (like the fender). Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Can only be from '78. All '79s used the matchbox type (well unless swapped) Under pass side dash against upper kick panel on the 620. . Quote Link to comment

I have never seen this one before, but it was on an L20b, so I thought I would get it, maybe I can use it on a J15 I have, mod it like mike did on my NL320 when he owned it. Quote Link to comment

Thanks datzenmike, i'll try to go there tomarrow and get the rest, since I have the rest, no one will likely look for that now. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
$347 at Oriellys or, a $5 matchbox from Pick-a-part red & green trigger wires The matchbox is vibration and moisture resistant so can go in the engine compartiment. Just needs to be bolted to metal so it stays cool. Quote Link to comment

Everything was so tight in there, it had a lot of smog crap, it also had what looked like a new/rebuilt carb, I just took the El distributor, and the thermostat housing with the piping that went from the water pump to the intake with the tee in the middle that went to the thermo housing. HRH
Haha, I've done that before on my first matchbox swap. Open up the black box and all it is a couple of studs and two ring terminals, just to give you a detach point for removing the distributor. ;) Quote Link to comment

metalmonkey47
I have the SAME dizzy on my truck. I didn't get the module, so I used a module from a matchbox dizzy. If you want wiring patterns, I can tell you how to make it work efficiently. It was pretty easy to wire. Fun actually... Quote Link to comment

CWhip
Hey Wayno, if you're going back tomorrow could you please let me know if the 200sx still has it's rear axle. I'm in the market for one. Thanks. Quote Link to comment

I'm in the market for one. Thanks. That 200SX with the VG30 in it in the foster rd. yard in portland oregon? I was there today, I looked under the hood to see if any 510 guys had pulled the intake and exhaust yet, it has been there for a while. Don't know how much longer it is going to be there, I bet it's been there for close to a month now, I'll take a look in the morning. They want a lot of money for stuff like that, to much if you ask me, they want $125.00 for just the pumpkin(center dropout piece) in a 720 axle, hate to think what they would want for the whole rearend. ggzilla
pick-a-part charges a whole lot less for car parts vs truck. And the whole rear end assembly (with axles & housing) is like $15 more than just the pumpkin. But then the charge extra for the brakes. Quote Link to comment
