In other (much colder) markets, it was an option. Seen more than a few Canadian cars with them. Almost seems like it would be a necessity in cold weather with a wagon? Duncan Posted July 23, 2017 Author Report Share Posted July 23, 2017 Crazy ass hot at the shop today, but the front end is mostly together. I always seem to have to buy a few bolts that are not too long to replace the ones that are too short, or vice-versa. Also need some speed nuts to finish it up. It's tough to get a good photo as all the lights are hitting the roof. The front is very dark. Also the dash is similar to the front. I have to hook up the heater outlets to the dash vents, tuck the harness under the driver's side, and the usual unforseen bolt thing.. 7 Quote Link to comment

Leaning up against the window is the track that's normally laminated to the glass. It decided to let go. Spent the day removing the door, fitting the new glass, and reinstalling and readjusting the damn door. I really hate working on doors. but got it done. I also have a new scratch or two that needs touchup :( I'm taking the finished hood and hatch down on Saturday. Rather than bug any of my friends with a truck, I found a very cheap rental on a full size cargo van. Won't be doing any work on Saturday, but it'll be nice to have the pieces there to install. 2 Quote Link to comment

Thinking my "Datsun" glove box logo was horribly damaged being encased in spray paint, and I picked up the "Bluebird" logo somewhere quite a while back. The paint on the BB logo was really badly chipped, and I tried to use Testors model paint which I have used on Datsun 1200 grill and trunk logos successfully in the past. I tried multiple times and they didn't look too good. I ended up stripping the paint off both of them, and used my black ABS dye. Both ended up looking nice. A little color would look nice, and at least I have a spare to play around with should the mood hit me. I ended up buying the hell-of-snazzy fender bolts and washers off ebay. They were $5.00 shipped from China :) The ad said they were anodized blue, but they were purple. Not a great match for my greenish-blue color. The chrome plating filled most of the hex head on the bolts, so they were mostly unusable. I actually like a washers a LOT. They are aluminum, and have a flat, solid back surface so they won't dig into the fenders when they are tightened. I prepped and primered the surface very well, but we'll see what happens when they are tightened :) I can always strip them and sandblast them back to aluminum. I did buy some new stainless bolts :) Funny shit. I haven't seen these torsion bars for the hatch in a very long time. I did notice that I have some blue tape to denote that as either a right or left side rod. Of course, there is no writing on the tape. Don't have a clue what I was thinking at the time :) Some assorted stuff. New heater tubes from The Keeper. Futofab Dave's supplier made a mistake and sent him a RHD hood latch assembly, so I graciously offered to take it off his hands. (For a discount, of course :) ) My missing glove box latch finally shows up 6 months after I replaced it. Also, I need to look around the shop, but it appears my hood prop rod is missing. If anyone has done a strut conversion and has an extra assembly, please let me know. 2 Quote Link to comment

This might be the push I needed... ^_^ Not to pull you or anything, but these showed up after a quick search at the shop. I honestly forgot how these mounted on the car. I was looking for something like a 1200 that mounts on the radiator support, not from the firewall :) I also realized that I bought NOS heater tubes for a USD 510 which aren't even remotely close to the heater I have in the wags. Once again, I have to fab something up to hook the outlets to the dash vents. :( Next car is a Chevy, Ford, or something I can buy parts for.. 3 Quote Link to comment

After doing that i realized it would likely work just as well built out of heavy card and painted with a rubber sealant to seal them. (I just need to locate them) I was thinking about making a simple wood buck and try to form some abs plastic for the base, then use some sort flexible hose to go to the dash outlets. My friend has a big box of various heater tubes from Alpines and similar cars that I can rummage through, so maybe I can locate something that might be adapted for the wagon. I certainly have a lot of "adapted from other cars" parts on it now :) Your heavy card stock is an interesting idea though. I'll keep that in mind. 1 Quote Link to comment

I've been looking for a few specific cars as a possible next vehicle for a while now, and having no luck at finding the right car. I've also been offered a 240z from a family member that is complete, but entirely disassembled for paint. It's an automatic, and probably needs everything (rubber seals, suspension, etc) replaced when it's painted and put back together. It sounds fun, but realistically, I don't think I could finish it. I've been looking at '55-'56 Chevy panel trucks, '37'-'39 Chevy Coupes (not the sedans) '35-'36 Ford Coupes. I've had a few Corvettes, and keeping an eye on the '68-'70 models as well..
