Ira210
:( As the title suggests I have coolant going somewhere to the tune of about 3/4 of a gallon every couple of days. I've checked the oil dipstick and see no signs of coolant in the oil no pools of coolant under my car and I'm not blowing white smoke out of the exhaust. I replaced the radiator and cap recently. Anybody experience this before? Wtf  Quote Link to comment
Radiant-Designer
hmmm its strange becuase mine is doing something simmilar, not that much but to a certain degree. i thnk some is leaking out of the thermostat housing but not that much (I hope) i am about to replace the thermostat housing, water outlet, and radiator hoses to find out if it helps Quote Link to comment
Ira210
Yeah super weird I have no visible coolant leaks anywhere! I also can't smell any coolant when I'm driving. Anytime I've had leaks in past the smell was obvious now I'm getting nothing...perplexed! Quote Link to comment
datsunrides
Check your carpets. Maybe the heater is leaking? Mark Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
Do you have an expansion/recovery bottle for the overflow coolant? Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
3/4 gallon over a couple days could be going out the tailpipe without being noticeable. White smoke usually means it would go through all the coolant in under 30 minutes. Quote Link to comment
Ira210
Do you have an expansion/recovery bottle for the overflow coolant? I do sometimes the coolant will pull from the expansion tank other times it won't. It does not overflow. Quote Link to comment

Haven't noticed when car gets hot. What would that mean? Blown head? Leaky head gasket? Quote Link to comment
Radiant-Designer
I noticed the same thing, I chalked it up to condensation with the cooler weather starting :( Quote Link to comment
moparvwfreak
my Bimmer does this. Don't know where its going. Check all the hoses though as a small pinhole might not be noticeable when idleing but under drive pressure it might be enough to leak. Quote Link to comment
Radiant-Designer
I have a 620, so my set up is probably different. I did notice it a little wet under the radiator where the overflow tube is but I dont thing it all went there, I did just fill it up before I drove home, so I epected some to come out there. and the little bit that is by the water outlet doesnt seem to be buch, even if I play with the Throttle cable and rev it up it doesnt spray by any means. and I filled it again when I got home last night and checked it in the morning and it was still full so i dont think its a leak thats too big. I ordered the parts to replace a lot of it, so we will see if that fixes my problem, if I find anything in my adventures i will post it here to see if it helps Ira210 or anyone else who may have this issue. I certainly hope its not leaking internally!!! Quote Link to comment

Not sure what else to scheck though as every coolant hose is dry dry dry and like I said earlier no wet spots under my car or in my car. :D Quote Link to comment

king bee66
hows your compression? Quote Link to comment
crackerjack69
my work van was eating coolant with no visible leakage. Ended up being intake manifold leaking internally I guess. Least that's what the guy said, and it stopped eating after he replaced it so... Quote Link to comment
Ira210
The compression will be checked tomorrow at neighbors. My idle is a little rough and the engine kinda stutters when I start to rev but goes away quickly and runs smooth. I also notice when driving at highway speeds or going up a hill when I gass the engine it will kinda lag then I feel like it almost drops out of overdrive when driving an automatic and pulls nice and hard. My car is a 4spd Quote Link to comment
Draker
Coolant system pressure test.. Do that, if it fails pull all your plugs and inspect. Quote Link to comment

KFunk740
For a better check if it's getting out the the tailpipe: Once it's warmed up, hold a thin paper towel or toilet paper up to your tailpipe and hold it there for a bit. It should stay dry.... but if it gets wet... well, you know what means. :( Quote Link to comment
dvboth
i had this happen to me it was the head gasket! the fire ring failed then burned thru to the water jacket! leaked about a gallon every couple of days, never overheated just lost water! Quote Link to comment

king bee66
not that big of a deal, changing a head gasket on an A series is 3 or 4 hours of work tops Quote Link to comment
