Yesterday.
I cleaned all the bolts to fit the front cover on.
And also tried to put the head on.
The timing chain I have is the wrong one. I ordered a new LB20 timing chain.
The one I have is off a L18.
Can't close this one up until I have the timing chain!
I 3D printed the timing chain spacer!

Be sure to push the slack side guide as far over to the right as you can before tightening the bolts. The bolt holes are slotted for that purpose. Do this after fitting the cam sprocket is installed so the guide can move over as much as possible. This also pushes the tensioner back in the holder.

I don't remember anything about either one of these.
I think the one on the right is from a wagon.

Found them in a box!

Left side pan is for a Z series engine 4x4. It will fit an L20B but the tilt and the deeper part is on the right when installed. On an '80 720 which was the only year for the L20B it would be hitting the front differential. All other years of 4x4 use the Z series engines with the differential on the left or driver's side.

The other oil pan is from either/or  2wd 521/620 or an '80 720 with L series engine.

I was in the garage looking for something else!
And I found another timing chain.
It's shorter than the one I tired to fit on!
I have no clue what length a chain should be.
Anyone know what is the rite timing chain length?

When installed, the number of links between the timing dots are...

L16/18..... 42

L20B....... 44

Z20/22... 38

Z24......... 40

The Z22 water pump has a larger flow rate than the 2 liter and smaller engines. If it has the integral fan it may not fit your shroud.

I would not

Agreed.

I am 90% sure the arm that fits the "Z" motors is different than the arms that fit the "L" motors.

The cam eccentric for the fuel pump is the same for the L and Z series engines. The Z22 fuel pump is physically larger but should fit.

L series. Note how tall the impeller is and the depth of the internal cavity...

Z series. Note impeller is taller and the cavity deeper...

I run the larger Z series on by L20Bs.

You are restricted to using the fan and clutch that comes with it as they cant be removed.
