dirt cheap junkyard 510 build

built the rest of the exhaust. went with an under-axle design. used an old cherry bomb in place of a muffler =*

 

 

 

and finally.....

 

IT'S LEGAL!! got my plates from the DMV.. after 15 years it's back on the road.

get some junk yard recaros from a BMW. made some mounts. put em in.
also, got a old school grant real-wood steering wheel and quick release.

made a cheapo short shifter.  
bent the rod with a torch to be in the right spot, the welded a steel ball to the base to increase the distance from the pivot point.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

then moved the pivot point up on the trans.

 

 

 

 

forward-back throw is about 4 inches, even though I'm running a really long shifter (it practically touches the steering wheel)

As this is a "junkyard build", how much do you have into it so far?

hmm, from start to now, including registration and cost of building the dolly

 

shell 400

tires 50

wheels 150

registration 180

dolly 190

carpet 20

camber plates 100

exhaust tubing 50

oils, fluids, paints, cleaners, sand paper, misc metal and bolts ~ 180

 

about 1500 i guess.  can't really quantify the time I put in to it though, especially the labor I traded for the motor and suspension parts.

The 5-speed is from an L-series car or truck, as a B210 transmission won't fit an L-series engine. And note that every L16 is fully balanced with 7K rpm redline right from the factory. But Rebello improves on the L16 for sure.

ah I thought stock redline was 5500.  

thanks for the info on the tranny. I realized later than it's from a 4wd truck, because there's no speedo drive. so i guess it was driven off the transfer case?  just guessing.

finally put an actually muffler on the car (rather than just a resonator). it's actually quiet enough to drive in town.

forgot to bring exhaust hangers to my friends house when we welded the pipes on, so had to make due with some chain and a bottle opener for fun.
