Do you think the SU Carbs are worth it over the standard weber setup? I have a buddy trying to sell me a setup and I'm debating if it is worth it. Sounds like there can be more setup time, but once you get them dialed in they should be more efficient.

Check ;)

Jinx, i havent had much seat time with them yet. I went for these carbs because they are ZTherapy rebuilt ones that i knew for a fact wouldnt be worn out.

If the carbs your looking at have an unknown history or are heavily worn on the throttle shafts, setup will be a nightmare.

I had a weber DGV, it ran GREAT, but i wanted to see what these could do. Shop with caution.

Solved my sticky throttle problems, the "twist rod" on the manifold had bent somehow, despite being hevily supported by the manifolt bits. So i replaced the rod with a 10mm bolt, had the U shaped piece welded back onto it, and secured the lever arm with a 1/4-28 bolt. Much 'beefier'. Secondly, the centerlink between carbs was a hair too long, and i think just maybe the carbs tweaked when bolted down with only 2/4 bolts.

Extra bolts and a file solved the issue.

Decided to upgrade to the famous Saturn 96A alternator. I desperately needed more electrical power for my lights and such.

FOr starters, its an L19 with a non clutch fan pulley. ANd I am running a 280ZX alternator bracket which uses M10mm bolts,

You have to drill the lower mounting holes out to accept M10 bolts, i just stuck it in a vice and attacked with a hand drill. The little "insert" needs to be trimmed as described in the saturn alt swap guide.

Here you can see the enlarged holes.

The next part i didnt get very good pics of it sadly. Totally forgot to take pics till it was installed. Regardless of what lower bracket you use, you WILL need to grind off some material to get proper swing out of it. A dremel wont cut it, an angle grinder is required. Secure the bracket in a vice, attach the alternator to it, and examine where material needs to come off. grind away until you get full swing of the alt. I ended up having to take a fair amount of material off.

For the pulley, you need a V belt pulley for it. Strangely enough, the pulley of my 280ZX alternator was a DIRECT fit. No mods needed whatsoever, and you retain the factory "pulley ratio".

For the upper bracket, you need to "relocate" the upper attachment point. Many people hack up their upper bracket arm for an L series alternator to make this part. I dont like destroying factory parts. I like to utilize them. So, go to your local hardware store, they sell this flat steel brackets with pre drilled holes in them. It looks like this but longer.

The bolt hole spacing is dead on. All thats required is you open the holes up to accept an M8 bolt.

Here is what I did with that steel piece cut down to a 2 hole section.

If you space the steel piece away from the alternator with 2 washers it lines up PERFECTLY with the factory adjuster arm.

For the wiring, it couldnt be simpler. Buy yourself a pigtail from any auto parts store for this alternator. They are widely available. Simply strip the tips of the wires labeled S and L, one is a heavy gauge wire, one small. Attach male spade connectors to each wire. Plug the S wire into the yellow wire in your Datsun T connector. THe L wire goes to the green datsun wire. I then wrapped this section in plastic wire loom and electrical tape to protect the connection. Use some vaseline or dielectric grease on your connections for corrosion protection. When you rig up your power charge wires, beware, the Datsun alt uses a 4mm or so stud, while the saturn uses a 6mm stud. You will need new ring terminals. For the ground wire you will also need a new ring terminal, there is a 8mm hole in the back of the case. Use a SHORT M8 bolt to secure the ground wire. Im talking 1/2"-3/4" long at MOST.

Goodyear belt # 15376 fit great, YMMV

Idle test
