Sealik
be nice to try a 38/38 first. as they are abit tricky on the low end starting on a hill. you could kill it or burn up a clutch. But since you motor is bigger might be better. If you ever go to the STATES get soemone to get you some Felpro Gasket sets and hold them for you. they are cheap. Byron510 always gets a few when he comes down or I give him some. of coarse the Jap anissan ones are better but Felpro is OK. Felpro intake gaskets are already to the SSS intake size of 1.5 also. Unlike the Victor Renz is 1.25in intake size. I hardly ever go to the States....been a few years since I've been there. I'll try Rockauto...maybe get a break on shipping if a buy a 'stack'..... :D Considering the amount of force it takes to push the Exedy clutch in....I don't think I'll have any issues. Not sure if that miss is coming from the carb....worked fine on the Z24. It idles with 20lbs of steady vacuum....soooo...I don't have a leak. Shall tinker with it again on the weekend. Sealik
So....took the LZ for a short road trip today to look at a 85 4x4 reg cab/short box. Pros....its a Nissan 4x4 :) 'Good' body on it Box is in really good shape Seats are okay ST steering wheel. 160000KM....but the motor calved 5 years ago for some reason  Might have a good trannie..(which I could use)......roll the dice. She said it was good...but Bush bumper Cab lights Canopy. Short bed/reg cab...better for off road Black interior Cons Engine most likely is NFG Heater was bypassed for some reason Some rust on front cab mounts....floor and other mounts are good though. Broken windshield. Moose crap everywhere. Would imagine all the wheel cylinders and clutch slave are NFG Auto hubs I could get it running pretty cheaply...have all the parts including engine Was listed for 400....offered 175...said she could sell the canopy for that She wouldn't take less than 250.... Might counter with 200 Anywho....I have 900 KM on LZ23. Runs like crap until it warms up.....still a slight miss when warm. Runs pretty strong though. Checked, cleaned and or replaced everything...idle jets included. No change. Have a new 38/38 coming....hopefully that remedies the issue Also...oil pump seems to have a slight leak...pulled it....cleaned it up, gasket is good....no difference on reinstall Shall fix....might upgrade volume And.....The shifter is starting to vibrate when I take off in first gear....excellent...not On another note....My buddy down the road just did the body work on this 72 Satellite....many hours He didn't paint it....and the under carriage (overspray) well be black.... Gratuitous shot of my 'dogs' in the background :D Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Front end has seen better days Sooooo...bought some stuff. Pitman Arm Bushings for idler arm Tie rod assemblies....cheaper compared to purchasing individual tie rods. Made in Japan Would assume that since the 'grease nipples' are sealed with a plug, that they have an adequate amount of grease in them already? Couple pumps after assembly? Quote Link to comment

Sealik
Dog is my co-pilot. (for the dyslectic members) Ya.....but....they're not old enough yet to have that, front 'seat' luxury.... ;) Actually....Ruby on the right is 10........soon Anywho..... replaced the front end components. Couldn't separate the right tie rod assembly from the cross rod/link in place.....and I didn't want to separate the idler arm from the cross rod, the idler arm was still in good shape. My ball joint fork would of ruined the rubber on it. So....I just removed the nut from the base of the idler arm and dropped it out with the cross rod/link. Replaced the plastic bushings in the idler arm....lubed them up prior to assembly. Set the drivers side assembly at 11.5 inches (FSM).... ball joint to ball joint (center to center), with them at a 90 degree difference to each other. I lifted the front end off the ground and marked the tires/treads before I removed anything....measured the distance between. Assembled everything....adjusted the right tie rod assembly until I had the measurement I took earlier. Worked out rather well....still needs an alignment....but, better than before :D Just about left the yard without tightening the lug nuts..... :o Almost 'pulled' a Metalmonkey.......... Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
try the 38/38 or try a L series Matchbox. see if that does anything. Maybe its a centrifical adv thing? If that all dont work buy a FJ 60 Landcruiser Quote Link to comment
Sealik
try the 38/38 or try a L series Matchbox. see if that does anything. Maybe its a centrifical adv thing? If that all dont work buy a FJ 60 Landcruiser The 38 should be here next week....I'm 'hoping' that will remedy the miss/stumble. Gave it a little bit on the highway yesterday.....was good in second gear up to 5000RPM...soon as I hit third the engine was struggling over 3500.... then died' at 4000. Thought I ran out of gas....nope.....didn't stall though. Don't have another matchbox lying around....just the Z22 and Z24 dizzys.. Landcruiser....? Blasphemy.... :D Quote Link to comment
Sealik
A little soot Was cleaning the idle jets out the other day....pried the O-ring and it flew off to who knows where. Didn't have any replacements...so I cut I fine sliver off a vacuum hose....seems to work/seal Idles around 12...full throttle 13.3 on my A/F ratio gauge Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Idle could be closer to 14 and full throttle low 12s but good for economy. Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Idle could be closer to 14 and full throttle low 12s but good for economy. Ya....my other truck with the EFI idles at 14ish The carb on the LZ doesn't sound right...I'd take it apart now...but I might not have the parts to fix it. Gasket...etc Don't want to get stranded....so I'll wait till I get the 38, then disassemble the 32/36. I like taking shit apart... :D Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I used to take old alarm clocks apart when I was kid. Used to spin/twirl the gears on my school desk top. (think Inception) Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Decided to take the carb apart and inspect... The awl is pointing to a little crud...in both pics. Other than that crap I noticed....didn't see anything out of place. Even though I wouldn't know if I did.... :D Blew everything out....reassembled....fired it up....YUP....FIXED! Nope.....ran good with the choke....but soon as the engine warmed up..choke opens, idle drops..then the miss. Did manage to have a look at the jet sizes though. :D Air Correction Jets...170/160 Main Jets.............135/155 Moar research Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Engine warming up...the miss progressively gets worse Smooths out somewhat at a higher RPM The 'noise' is the PS tensioner Sorry.... unedited and not what I wanted to post....but. What the who... Stranglehold.......... :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CU55Z6yvQNo Vacuum gauge is reading plus 2 lb Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
135 is a little low on the main jet size Im thinking. But wait for the 38/38 to show up. like I said earlier try a L series matchbox if the above dont work. Tensioner????????? The chain tensioner?????????? Just make sure you didnt put to long of a bolt in the lower stat housing as it could push the tight side guide on the upper partof the guide thus making a grinding sound Quote Link to comment

Hopefully by Friday I'll have the 38 Ya...I checked....should be a 140/140...relative to application of course Although Jim Hilton jetted it....and it did work fine on the other truck (Z24), so who knows. Is the primary side (?) (closet to engine) suppose to be black like that? Soot...meaning rich...which would make me conclude...too much fuel or not enough air. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Is the primary side (?) (closet to engine) YOu know the anwser to this! what is the linkage moving on a 32/36? thats the main barrel. Quote Link to comment

Sealik
Finally located a spring compressor.I ordered the KD 3087..but....no longer available. Parts store received the newer version....totally different. The other parts store in town found this....pretty much the same as the 3087 Did a dry run....Rather impressed....fits like a glove.Actually one of the better 'compressors' I've used Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Installed the new 38....noticeable improvement over the 32/36.... :D Can only imagine if that engine was in a (2WD) vehicle that weighed a 1000 lbs less....vroom. The engine still has that miss at idle. Rechecked the valve lash...reset a few...nothing abnormal. Replaced the dizzy (again) with another known 'runner'....no diff. Idles at 19 lbs of vacuum Timing is at 15 degrees.....no pinging under load. A/F ratios Cold...13 at idle Warm ..12 at idle...pretty much the same as the 32/36 WOT...is lower than the 32/36... at 11.7 from 13.3 Pretty much between 11.7 (WOT) and 16....driving around. Would seem that it has a slight vacuum leak....but I can't find it. And being that is has 19 lbs at idle....can't be loosing much.... if any. Would assume the cam drops the vacuum a few points. No clue... ...yet.... :) http://youtu.be/TCorrBZ7Nd0 Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Waiting for a leak down tester 'to confirm' the valves are leaking on the LZ23...then I'll give the results to the machinist.Anywho....have to get some wood in for the winter....so I flashed up the old girl. This is the engine from my first Nissan, has about 480000 on it...with its second body, which is rather suspect to say the least Hopefully the frame doesn't go south when loaded Had a bit of miss at idle.....soooooo...when in doubt....remove everything.. Runs like a top again....checked the oil....excellent....black gold Removed the canopy, slapped some fatties on it, loaded the dogs and scoped the back 40 for some 'lumber'Had to pull this out of the way en route Mmmmmm.....tall Doug Fir in the background, add that to the collection...good for about 6 weeks heat Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Mmmmmmmm.......... Douglas Fir Just about popped a nut trying to get these in the truck.. :D .... heavy shit Figure around 1700 plus lbs....and the old frame didn't split in 2, being off road and all  Not bad driving ahead....but backing up, the whole drive train shuddered. Guess that's what happens when you have different sized tires, front and back ;) Got to love the torque of the Z24...and 4L of course. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I used to take my maul and half moon them first. Quote Link to comment
Sealik
I used to take my maul and half moon them first. I would of....but I left it at home. :D Tried to spilt the smaller ones after....no go. Need a wedge with the maul. I'll leave them out in the sun, then they'll start to check....much easier. Sealik
I used to take my maul and half moon them first. Was kind of curious....so I weighed the larger blocks from the butt of the tree....around 220 lbs :o Looks like my load was a little heavier than thought.... :D Quote Link to comment
