Sealik
Decided to do some work on the 280Zx struts... Removed tip from air chuck...screwed right into caliper Poof... Pistons were shot...rounded up a few I had lying around. 2 different styles were in my calipers(on right)....720 has the same PN Fuck it....no rebuild kits available in Canada. Back ordered Decided to buy new ones. Got a good deal on some new camber plates and inserts locally...and eventually another pair of struts/hubs  While inspecting the hubs....looks like one of the bearings disintegrated at one point. Appeared to be welded and then grinded out for the bearing cup to fit Bearing cup was loose in hub Fuck it...located some other hubs. Took the rotors in to get turned. Not good...warped etc. Bought new ones and some needed hub seals and brake lines. Assembled.... Dragged this out of the back 40 and installed in my DD after my HG and or went south. That sucked...winter and all. Stranded......Merlin had to bring me a pilot bushing...lol Pic was from a couple of years ago....when it got 'stored' Changed the clutch, rear seal, pilot bushing, spark plugs etc. Slapped on my new 38/38 Impressed...runs rather well, good oil pressure no ticks....or leaks. That said...when I first flashed it up...it ran like shit and leaked from the top of the water pump. On another note..... I located my L6 spray bar. Shall shorten it and install on my LZ Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Had a lull in winter.....a temporay chinook so to speak and decided to dig the windshield out of goon Had 4 small divots in it....fuck.....oh well...get my buddy to inject them prior to install Bought some BA drums.....both made in Brazil....different 'finishes' Found some 6 spoke rims....no workie...offset is all wrong Mounted the 280Zx struts....with the bump steer spacers Merlin picked up All new brake/clutch lines under hood etc. Filling struts with ATF Clearance from the strut tube and the new 215/60R 14s....BFG/TAs New LCA bushings. As she sits as of.....now Taking the 510 to the 'neighbour' down the road for a quick splash of paint and or. Barter is good Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Leveled the tundra....temp tarmac Set/measured both sleeve collars from the support/weld rings.....2 3/4" Dropped it down. Set both sides to max negative camber on the T3s.....stock strut towers have not been modified. Passenger side tire sits about 1/16" in at the top. Drivers side is sitting at about 3/8+". Put a level behind the strut towers.....car is leaning to left......as per pic. More questions.................... Quote Link to comment

Sealik
Yes....running in circles rings a bell........ :D Figured out the camber issue.....pulled a noob and didn't realize the back end was listing somewhat. Jacked the right rear up.....camber corrected.......good to go sort of. Dropped her down.......215s rub when the steering is cranked full left and right.....fucken Also.....I came to the conclusion I failed on a few double flares after using a tad more brake fluid while bleeding..... :D Picked up a better flaring tool from Merlin.........and my new windshield gasket came in. No more drippage on the left upper thigh and or when the rain hits..... Built a rear SPF bumper for the 510. Bolts to the fenders for that unassuming stock position........or....I can pivot it up and create some down force for some of those high speed........... spirited drives..... Spoiler....whale tail... whatever..... :sneaky: Quote Link to comment
merlin
SPF! Nowthats a good Canadian car mod eh! Quote Link to comment
Sealik
"SPF! Nowthats a good Canadian car mod eh!" Ha ha...figured someone would call bullshit. That 'bumper' is an adjustable foot rail that bolts to 2 knee braces, 1 pictured on the left.....which supports that counter....lol. But......It did give me a few ideas since I have no rear bumper. And even if I did it wouldn't fit due to the rear flares This is a little less 'Cherry' and should keep the DOT from pulling me over Just need to slather it up and mount it.....good for at least 7 MPH impacts.... :sneaky: Tis Douglas Fir you know.......lol Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Make me a set of smiley bumpers Doug. Quote Link to comment
Sealik
My buddy was busy and I needed to get the 510 on the road ASAP.....soooooo......I just sprayed the previous work with some Tremclad. Other than the aphids/insects, blinding sun while spraying white paint, impending storm..... and the wind that grabbed the plastic laying it on some fresh 'scape' Things went..............................okay.... ...................... Not.............. Bumper installed....... Quote Link to comment
Omelet720
Nice!! =D For a wood bumper, it looks fantastic. Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Thanks..... It's illegal here to be running without a bumper......keep the DOT at bay. Need to remove some 720s from the property so I pulled some R180s..... 411s and a 438, still have a couple more to pull. The 438 diff in the 510 has quite a bit of slap and decided to replace with a 411 to get the highway revs down. That said.... the companion flange has a different bolt pattern on the latter 411s Drained the 4.38....nice and clean oil....really tight....no slap. Noticed the vents are different....along with the stubs. Could not remove the 4.38 stubs for some reason.....assumed they come off with the 5 bolt retainer Here nor there....don't need the 438 yet. Bought a fish scale to determine preload before I took anything apart, I also punched dimples on the end of the pinion and nut for reference. But since I was swapping flanges....I wasn't sure if the other flange would affect preload after I aligned the dimples back up. Wrapped a string around the socket about 7 times and pulled it....worked pretty good. The 411s took 9 lbs to rotate...the 438 took 14 Installed a new pinion seal 'Torqued' the nut on with an impact..... and after aligning the dimples I was at about 7lbs. Rotated the nut about an 1/8" and got the preload to 9....not sure if I should add a lb or 2 being that the bearings etc are not new. Stock specs are 8.7-20lbs. Done....with fresh oil and an early rear cover Just need to swap in the R160 stubs Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Apparently I missed the memo on installing the larger R180 in a 510. Could not drop the old 438 out....first I removed the rear cover to gain a little more room. Nope......had to pull the companion flange to pivot it out. Which meant I had to remove the flange on the 411 with the preload already set up.....fucken Was a bitch. Anywho.....dropped by the local body work shop to see the progress on a Z. The owner of the shop bought the car and had my buddy do the body work.....looks pretty good. He also brought up (hired) Norm from Zeddsaver (http://zeddsaver.com/) to assemble the rest of the car. I sent him my 46mm SUs and had some new bushings installed Hmmmmm......what's the saying?......................................"If you didn't build it.................................." The L28 Shall drop by in a 'few' days to see the finished product Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Had my Moms 1989 Mazda 626 LE sitting in the front yard for the last few years thinking I would replace the NFG auto trannie....nope...too expensive. Shame..... because the car is in very good shape with a 2.2 EFI, PW, PL, cruise, power sunroof, AC....etc. Oh well...time to strip what I can use and get it towed out. Seats for the 720.... Wiper motor for the 510.....the 89 is slightly different than the recommended 84-87...but I think I can make it work. DQ articles Volume 8 Issue 2 Door seals....the seal is a little loose in the channel on the top part of the 510 door....but...with a little adhesive, no problem. Comparing Mazda and 510 trim that covers the pinch weld in the door opening, it's a little wider and won't fit underneath the door sill plate, so it needs to be cut shorter and butt into the edges instead of running underneath. Door shuts and seals better......not sure if that will change once the 626 door seals are in place. EDIT Actually....the trim will fit underneath the sill and the doors will close the same after the door seals are installed Basically just seals the inner part of the door....fits rather well. 'Hot wired' the electric fuel pump in the 626 and drained the tank........50 bucks worth of fuel  2 Quote Link to comment
merlin
saw you running the other day... looking fast lol. Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Impressive numbers............. For the hell of it I decided to give this 720 a compression test . I knew it ran good, but I haven't insured it as a DD for 5-6 years, (body/frame is toast) basically just use it off road now and again to collect firewood and or. OP is 50 lbs at idle even though it was low and looked like it hasn't been changed since the 90s (black gold!), no ticks, no misses/hesitation etc. Sounds rather healthy compared to the engine in my DD. The motor is from my first truck and has been swapped a couple times already after the bodies have rusted out. About 470000 km on the clock..... Was thinking the numbers might be around 140 on a good day ^^ 175,179,176,182 Hmmmmm Nothing wrong with the tester since I recently used it on the 510 and on the first crank the needle jumps up to about 90lbs.....which is rather good. I'll throw the tester on my DD and see what the numbers, they should be below 150. Someone must of rebuilt the engine before I got the truck which had 215000Km on it at the time. The head/pistons will have a little carbon build up....but.... This is good...no need to rebuild a block right now and can throw it in this truck after a little cleaning As of today 3 years ago On another note.... I recently bought an entry level android phone because my flip/clam style phone (no sim card) from the late 90s is starting to drop calls... da fuk??????.................lol Random edited phone pics Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Hooked the tester to my compressor Left to right..............tester, tank, outlet pressure Pics as it cycled to max tank pressure 55lbs 105lbs 125 Pretty much bang on. Then I tested this truck.... 175,170,179,170 1 Quote Link to comment
