Z-train
Agree with Mike except i'd use synthetic after break-in. Quote Link to comment
HRH
valvoline with zinc is all the dime gets. It needs the zinc since other oil doesnt have it :( Royal Purple has zinc. It's an SL oil still, not an SM. They never went away from the old formula. And I like the VR1, but I don't think it's necessary for the KA motors. Think I'll be switching to some Castrol full synthetic in it. Damn lifters are noisy at startup. Quote Link to comment
elmerfudpucker
With my fresh rebuild on my Z22 I am thinking on going synthetic, good idea guys? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Give it a few thou to thoroughly break in first. The rings and walls need to 'wear and seal' against each other for maximum compression. Quote Link to comment

HRH
Ditto that. Our autocross president learned that the hard way. He built an SR20 and switched to synthetic too soon, rings never broke in properly. Had to disassemble and re-hatch the cylinders. Quote Link to comment
DatDoug
ValVoline is what I use with a quart of lucas. Whatever you use I think we all agree NO PENNZOIL! I have seen what that shit does to mot....I mean engines. Quote Link to comment
74datsun620
I use Castrol and Wix Filters. Quote Link to comment
moparvwfreak
Am I the only one who uses Kendall? At least for the engines I care about! Edit: not motors.. i do!!! but finding it around my home isn't easy. no one carries it. whenever my Passat goes to my mechanic for an oil change, he uses Kendall. i have a case of Kendall 10W30 in the back of my dodge thats gonna go in when i get the motor rebuilt. With my fresh rebuild on my Z22 I am thinking on going synthetic, good idea guys? after a good breakin, i dont see why not. hell 2 of my rigs now run synthetic. my Passat (150K) and my Cherokee (254K) both run with a bottle of Lucas.
