Last time I went to the dealership for parts, 2 or 3 came out of the woodwork asking if there was anything they could do for or show me...:D

They about hit the floor as I told them that I'd called ahead looking for the shifter bushing's that go around the pivot pin, and that they were in stock on the shelf (non-special order part)

As I came out side after purchasing the bushings, again I received looks at the 'RustyRat', but of course it started right up and drove off into the sunset

Can't put a good rig down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Years ago I put an L20B in my 521. I got it cheap because it blew the h/g. Of course (not knowing about head warp) it blew again. I had an old 510 L16 out back so I decided to swap that head on while the other was getting a shave. Went to the dealer for a gasket and they assured me I couldn't put the L16 head on an L20B. So I did it and drove it back and showed them. The parts guy and a couple of mechanics came out to look at it. Sweet. Maybe '79 gas was better than today's because the comp. should have been around 9.23 and no ping. Didn't notice anything different.

Recently my Nissan parts guy helped me find a pilot bushing for the old L20B. Turns out the Z24 will work. Less than $3 and in stock. Later he cross referenced a power steering box seal and it fit! He also let me make copies of the 720 wiring diagram from their FSM.

Just for kicks i went to the nissan dealer looking for vent window seals for my 521. I just handed the parts guy the part numbers without saying a word. He just looked up at me and said, "We're going a ways back, I don't have it but I know a guy that might have something." He gave me the number to a datsun specialist in boulder, "This guy restores and parts out datsuns, I bought my 510 off of him a few years back."

It usually seems the guys behind the parts counter at Nissan are pretty dedicated to their job, Even going as far as driving the history.

wrong, my oarts guy wont even call me to tell me he cant get shit

That's a great story. It's always good to have a Datsun guru behind the parts counter. Mine is at maita nissan in sacramento. He's the only one there that takes the time to help me out when I say it's for a 521. I take my note pad everytime I'm in there. The guy's been with Datsun/Nissan for about 35 years. I asked him for a part and he knew the number off the top of his head today. Gotta love the old-timers. They know their shit.

I took my 73 to the dealership about 3 years ago when I couldn't figure out why every time I put my truck into 4th gear the engine would die. The dealership said that their "veteran" technician was on vacation and I had to come back later. I studied the haynes manual until I figured out how to "make" it run.
