  1. cool hainz i'll try wiggling some wires before i turn the key off. i was at a major light this time and needed to get through the intersection. the first time it happened i was just sitting looking at my dash thinking wtf!! then the power just came back on by itself.
  2. i seen it when it was posted in the first hour. i like it but i dont think it will go for much considering what the 220,221,222,223's go for in the same condition. super rare. put a engine in it and roll it just like it is:D
  3. this happens to me once in a while and it happened today on the way to work. the engine dies and i lose all power "lights, heater ect". i turn the key off and when i turn the key back on it starts right back up with everything working it doesn't stay dead long enough to trouble shoot. i have a new fuse box and all my wires are tight and clean. might it be my ignition switch? any ideas or has this ever happened to you?
  4. i checked it out. windshield is not cracked but has 2 dings. bed is rusted through with no tailgate. the rest of the body is solid including the floor pans and rockers. it has a l18 that starts and runs but the head gasket is leaking. the title is lost but it has tabs. the cab and fenders are primered grey. if it's still around when i get paid i'll pick it up. it's a good deal except the whole waiting 2 years for the title thing from the dmv.
  5. i used to call my 72 521 "little datsun bitch" i told my kids her name was betsie. but now i just call them red and blue. my 71 being red and my 72 being blue.
  6. done deal. the dog bones were on the correct side. the spindles with backing plates and wheel cylinders were pointing in the wrong direction. left side came apart easy right side king pin was seized in the dog bone and i had to take it to the machine shop and before i knew it i had to do the king pins again. oh goody. good thing i had a spare new king pin set cause they're getting hard to find. stops great now.:)
  7. great score! i love to see another 521 saved. when was the last time it ran? any history on it? how about a under the hood pic? welcome to our great site.

  12. someone could have drilled the holes on one side and got lazy and never did the other side. i have a early 521 reflector fender on my 71 521 that i cut out a rectangle for the side marker light.
  13. i have the best luck pounding 12 point sockets on to the studs to get them out. about the only thing a 12 point socket is good for.
  14. zuum i still want that coil. just been busy. i got it started twice since my last post. i still dont know what the problem is i haven't checked the compression cause i dont have a tester. i dont have any blow by though. i think the rings are fine. no oil burning at all. i'll still find a way to check it just to know what the numbers are. i swapped an old points coil in and nothing. i swapped carbs and nothing. my spark looks like it has some blue in it. should it be completely blue? if i close the plug gaps to say .032 should that increase my spark? my timing is on i have no back fire when turning it over or driving or shutting it off. like i said it runs fine after i get it started but it. i have a spark, weak or not it's a spark. timing is on fuel is there. when i first turn it over i get nothing for a minute. no poof no back fire, nothing. then it catches a little as i pump the hell out of the pedal. it catches for about 2 or 3 minutes then it chokes along and i hold the pedal still about half way down and then it finally starts. it starts right back up after i get it running. till about 2 to 3 hours later. so trying to choke it and bitch slap it and cursing and kicking among everything else i'm still stuck. it did feel good to get it started the other day. i wont give up on her but she is on restriction until further notice. she's not aloud to go anywhere. it;s giving me more trouble than my teen daughter. i guess i'll try regrounding the engine.
  15. i'm having the same exact problem.:blink: i guess its time to buy a hair dryer:confused: i got mine started the other day after cranking it over for 10 minutes. it starts fine after that until the engine cools back down. if i hadn't got laid off on the 1st i'd take it to the shop.
  16. i have a couple in so so condition.
  17. another saved 521. cool:cool:
  18. not mine. went and looked at it. needs a windshield. http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/1415722915.html
  19. i just put in the new plugs and wires. the old plugs were wet with gas without even turning the engine over. took the carb off to make sure there was no flooding and not even a poof with starting fluid. the spark at the wires is yellow red. i never upgraded my coil when i put the electronic dizzy in. maybe i burned it out?
  20. awesome mike. now i just need 2 reems of paper and some ink/toner:D:D:D
  21. cool i've already sprayed it down with the hose to get off the spray can stuff. i also tried degreaser and wd-40. as long as i dont have to break out a sand blaster i'll be ok.
  22. if your after market gauge starts to read over 190 your stock should in the red. i tend to get thermostat's that like to stick when new for some reason. mine used to go up to 220 once in a while the would plumit down fast to normal operating temp. somethings got to give when that happens either a head gasket or the thermostat. i've always got lucky and the stat becomes unstuck. ever since i replaced my radiator and water pump i noticed my engine runs hotter. i noticed some water pumps have bigger l shaped fins. whats up with that. dont know about a 620 but on a 521 the spot between hot and cold is normal temp. there is also an adjustment on the back of the gauge to dial it in.
  23. well add me to the list. just got laid off. got something lined up though.
  24. yeah i know i'm a jackass sometimes and now have a secure battery. but before that i tipped over my battery and it seems the acid got everywhere:eek:. i tried the battery acid neutralizer that comes in the spray can but it didn't seem to help that much. do any home remedies out there work like baking soda?
  25. this has been an ongoing progressive problem for a few months now and i feel very pissed off and defeated. generally i dont ask for help but that's part of the reason were all here is to help each other. my 521 l16 with weber 32/36 and electronic dizzy started to have a hard time starting a few months back. i would have to feather the hell out of the gas pedal to get it to start when the engine was cold. eventually it wouldn't start in the morning with the cold air but in the afternoon when the sun was out i could get it to start after a few minutes of feathering the gas and playing with the manual choke. now that the season is changing i cant get it started anymore. after it would start up i can turn it right off and it will start right back up on the first revolution until the engine cools back down after a few hours. i thought it was flooding so i had the carb rebuilt by a well known shop. it still does the same thing. i cant find any pattern to it. holding the gas down makes it try to start but i still have to play with the choke and pump the gas. i just replaced the battery and am ready to battle it some more. i bought new plugs and wires too. i will put them on and take the carb off and with a little starting fluid sprayed into the intake manifold the thing should fire. i'm still thinking it's the carb. any help is great guys.
