  1. If the intake/exhaust is hanging over into the compression stroke, wouldn't that cause a compression issue? My cam was ground in 1974 so no worries there :P This head has bounced around owners a bit, as an ex race head from the realm. L28 valves, 1 5/8th intake ports, nismo dual springs and retainers, etc. Not sure if it was machined from a reliable source or not. Leak down test will probably be a tomorrow thing. I have not nor do i know how to do a wipe pattern on a cam. It all seems to be pretty well assembled from a glance, but I'm not experienced enough to know what I'm looking for in fine details, as L's are still pretty new to me. Everything appears to be in tact with no odd signs or strange noises heard. I did a dry compression test cold that only had 60 PSI on cyl 1. Warmed it up and got 100 PSI. After finding a few valves that were WAY too tight and had no clearance whatsoever and loosening them up, I have 100 cold. But my adjustment wasn't really 'to spec' following the above adjustment information in the original post since my feeler gauge isn't narrow enough to fit between the lash pad and the rocker tip. I'll have to make one tomorrow. After loosening up intake valve on cyl 1 I'm at 100 PSI on an ice cold motor. not perfect...but maybe it's an improvement.
  2. I've just finished compression testing my LZ after installing my new Nismo big bore gasket to check my numbers, and I'm still seeing a lower then normal number. 100 PSI cylinder 1 with the motor HOT. I dropped some oil in the cylinder and the number didn't change a bit, so I know the issue is in the head. I was looking into valve adjustments but I don't have a factory cam. It's a Racer Brown .475 (275 degrees at .025"lift, 250 degrees at .050" lift and .475" lift at zero lash) with the correct lash pads. It's a racer brown 'Race carm' (signified by the 'R' ground into the back of the cam) The only info I've found on these camshafts is regarding the street grinds, posted by Datsun Wizard. With that said, I'm purely assuming that since we checked the head with a straight edge when it was off for the head gasket, and that the added oil doesn't affect my compression numbers that my issue has GOT to be in the valves. Now I've never adjusted the valves on any OHC motors, just pushrod, so I'm going to ask the stupid questions. I've seen the video's and read the threads and none answer my questions directly. I'd rather not guess and break something. The lock nut below the rocker must be the adjustment nut, but how does that affect the upwards and downwards movement of the rocker?

      I thought you wanted sidedrafts?

  4. Much better!! Are you using Autozone/Gabriel shocks on your rod??
  5. Here in Georgia, it was 7 degrees last week. Then several days later it was 63. The fuck. Now it's 38
  6. I have a nismo gasket on their now. It's a big bore gasket and the sealing surface overlaps really well, so it should be cherry
  7. So clearly the FelPro gasket is insufficient for an LZ. Turns out the combustion chamber on the head seems to have been modified and opened up slightly, which explains why I was having low compression issues on cylinder 1. The gasket wasn't hardly sealing on the head, and seeped into the water jacket and oil galleys on 1 & 3.
  8. Christmas? Or was this new years. I don't remember
  9. Thanks man!!! For the record I was planning on ordering one of those, but got lazy and forgot. Crap. Guess I'll go cut some garden hose.
  10. Anyone have a picture of the timing chain wedged with the timing cover off from the front? I'm trying to decide how to wedge the tensioner so I don't loose it. Can't afford to loose that. Yes I've searched. Also, holy hell 20 degree's is cold.
  11. Dang thanks guys  I'm gonna bookmark that. Lots of good info. Only reason I asked is because I have the long Z20 rods in my LZ and I was curious if they were really doing me any good.
  12. That's what I'm getting at. If it doesn't change that, what does it actually change? What's the benefit?
  13. Okay this is going to sound stupid seeing as my motor is equipped with what I'm about to ask...but I honestly have no idea... What's the benefit of running longer rods if it doesn't change displacement, or such? Sounds like my LZ man! I got on hills and just spin if I'm not careful. In the rain, I'm pretty much a grandma, otherwise I'm sliding and the tires have zero traction.
  14. Funniest shit I've ever seen on FB  I may actually have to come to Candy this year so I can laugh at Justin. He said I wouldn't show up. Hazaaaaaaaaaa
  15. DO NOT BUY AN AIRTEX BRAND PUMP. I made this mistake. Find out who manufactures the pump you're buying. The arm on mine decided it wanted to walk over off the lobe and ride up the washer. No bueno for metal shavings and a truck that won't run.
  16. Probably just blowby picked up oil. If you were driving it hard, this will be more evident. I'm guessing you haven't done a compression test in a while? Might be time to do a wet/dry test and see how it looks. Rings are probably pretty worn.
  17. Interesting. I'm Irving, Overland Park, or Nashville. Which is pretty close. http://nyti.ms/1dXED7z
  18. Nice man! Made up your mind on what to do with her yet?
  19. Pathetic that as a veteran, you expect people to respect YOU, but you act like a 13 year old girl that just got her period and found the internet. Grow the fuck up dude.
  20. Ironic, a buddy bought some A3A's yesterday for his dime, and then two more sets of Advans show up for sale. Like was said above, there have been far too many post-and-go types that join to forum to sell a few hundred bucks worth of parts up and disappear. Don't know if that was your intention or not, but it doesn't seem like it. Ratsun's got a somewhat 'protective' community, trying to weed out all the douchebags that try to fuck it up. *cough cough* braden *cough cough* JDM510 *cough* You build pretty cool cars. I'd like to see what you'd do with a 510/710/610 etc.
  21. We're not a parts for sale page. Sorry man, but if you don't post, you don't sell.
