Disc Brake Conversion on 71 521

On later Nissan trucks (eg D21/hardbody) it's attached to the rear axle via spring & lever/bracket.  I don't know what Nissan was smoking with a valve sensing "level" that would be affected by grade & braking forces, not just bed load.

Did they? All I saw was anti locking sensors on the differential pinion.

Page 16 on the 'Mid year' 1986 D21 FSM too. So all years. Never noticed it as the NLSV but have seen the picture before.

 

On the 620/720 going up hill would add to the 10 degree tilt and increase braking but going up hill would place more weight on the rears anyway, not much but some. Tilting downward would make no change. On the D21 it looks like there is a lever also. Brakes would work normally if it failed. Working, it just adds some extra stopping power.

Well we are talking about 620/720 NLSV assemlies, not modern trucks.

What a 96 Hardbody NLSV has to do with any of this has me baffled, when I mentioned the NLSV I was talking about a 720 NLSV comparing it to the 521 that had no such thing.

You have a D21? I've never noticed one on a D21 here but have seen that picture he posted.

I had a 1993, 2WD. Maybe that’s why it didn’t have one. The 4WD’s might have been different. I’d love to have another one. It’s unfortunate the body used to rot out on them, because the drivetrains lasted forever.

This.  Also, any pics of the surgery?

 

For what it's worth, I installed mklotz's kit on my truck plus a Wilwood manual proportioning valve. None of this NLSV witchcraft, and left rears as drums. Very happy with results and braking is much less an adventure now. Do your research and get a beebani or mklotz kit, some junkyard parts, and new or reman shiny parts.

 

Here I've had the boy load up telephone poles, then headed for steepest downhill!
