five1oh
Wheels are on! A little bit the same, a little bit different. Whole car is still a fraud though because of the "L" in the VIN number. Fake it until you make it!!! Watanabe's are so awesome. That was the plan from the start of the build and so happy to have them now. Duncan
Those wheels really look great with the Cactus Green. Would love to have some Wats for my wagon, but can't find the right size. 1 Quote Link to comment

five1oh
So I was SUPPOSED to be driving my Fairlady to JCCS this year but because I tried to have too much done too close to the show it was not ready. In hindsight I am super happy that I drove the 510 instead..........my dad made the trip with me so that was super cool. five1oh
The trip down was somewhat brutal because in Patterson on I-5 there was construction and it took 1 hour to go 2 miles. The car started to get hot (never in danger of overheating) which my car does not like because the fuel in the carbs begins to boil and pour out onto the header.....I was able to start/stop and keep it running to make it to the next exit which happened to be just before the end of the construction area. My dad and I got lunch while the car cooled down. After lunch about ten minutes later we saw a big rig go off the freeway and explode into a fireball.....I don't think the driver made it 😞 😭 Arrived to Long Beach around 6pm and then went to wash the car: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 2 Quote Link to comment
five1oh
So this year show day was insane and kind of a blur. I was terrible about taking pics this year........... Got up early and rolled in. As usual staging for the show was crazy and I could barely keep the car running. Because I was using my Z entry letter I had to explain to event staff where I should park. Thankfully it worked out and I got to park right next to the section I was originally supposed to (D9 vs D10). The section was on flat ground which was cool. Once parked I went to the registration booth and worked with them to move my name and car from one judges form to another and then fill out an info card for my car. After that I went back to my car and started staging and cleaning it up. Once clean I went for a walk around with my dad and bought a couple T-shirts. I also got my goody bag and then at some point made it back to my car. I was at my car maybe an hour chatting with Ben Pila, Raymond, my friend Greg Slay that I sold the white 620 to, and other friends and met some new people. A set of judges came by at 1030 and I was super thrilled. I got to talk to them about my car which I was rambling a million miles per hour and showing them all of the details that I liked about it. I explained to them how a year before I was at my car all day and didn't see any judges. They went on their way and feeling accomplished that I got to meet a judge my dad and I decided to leave the show and get some lunch. We came back around 1230 and talked to some more people. Then I went on a walk to talk to some of the Wild Cards crew (mikey, pat, paul) and also my friend Ralph. Seems like I was in conversation for at least an hour talking hako stuff and seeing Rob and Alvin at Z Car garage. Maurcio (Cios Restoring the dream) also came to find me and we talked paint and my other cars. Before I knew it I was back at my car (sorry dad for leaving you there) and one of the judges that talked to me earlier came by and said to make sure I was at the awards. My instant thought was Holy Crap they must've selected my car to win one of the 510 awards. It was getting late and I heard the announcer start on the awards so my dad and I made our way over there. Standing there with Mauricio I heard them calling off one class after another and then it was the Datsun 510 category......3rd place - not me.........2nd place - not me.........1st place - not me. For a split second I was super bummed but then reflected on all of the old friends and new friends I had met and talked to and all of the awesome cars and a smile came to my face because I had an amazing time. I didn't care because I love the people and the drive more than anything......plus no day is a bad day surrounded by hakos and 510s and z's and all. I contemplated going back to my car but stuck around and heard our friend Raymond win not 1, not 2, but THREE awards for his Datsun 521. WELL DESERVED BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So that was super exciting. They went through super street award and some other selective awards and then they came to the last award. I was ready to go back to my car and they started announcing "Best of JCCS - 1972 Datsun 510 by Andrew Sayre" Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?!? I could not believe what I was hearing. Aftwerwards the judge came back to talk to me and explained the process and I was just dumbfounded....I had no clue that each award has a different set of judges that go out and scout the cars and select cars. For best of show they look at EVERY car! 500+! I am still in shock and I apologize for the rant and lack of photos on this post. So crazy! five1oh
So to be honest the thing I was looking most forward to about coming down to JCCS was meeting up with my friend Eric and "big red". On my way home after the show on Sunday we met up in LA for Supercars and Coffee. Finally I took some pics of my car lol: Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr breakfast 🙂 Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr Untitled by five1oh2010, on Flickr 2 Quote Link to comment
