Only down side is it's not 100% sealed If the tank gets pressure it will come out of the wiring pass throughs. Next tank I build I'm going to do it like Keith did. He posts it all the time on the realm. Basically he welds a sump in the stock tank. super simple. 1 hour ago, ]2eDeYe said: Sorry about that haha haha Mulit projects are the best so thanks! I was at pick and pull at closing yesterday. 2 Quote Link to comment

Since the stub axles are the same as alot of other Dattos I went and grabbed a set off a ZX at Pick and Pull. Paul was going to meet me there but somehow he wasn't able to make it till 4:55 aka closing time. HAHA I wanted to fit that into my day too but I got delayed fixing the brakes on the new race car tow rig. Took longer than I thought it would. I must be out of practice. I did manage to meet Jeff there as he was walking out with the goods! 2 Quote Link to comment
carterb
More work completed last night. Rear crossmember, diff, and driveshaft are in. Trailing arms still need new bearings. New fuel injector adapters are in - that was a struggle - and fuel rail set in place. Need yet another custom part now to secure fuel rail to intake. Throttle body mounted. Front brakes mounted. Needs to be on the ground and rolling next week! Quote Link to comment
shlammed
Why all the adapters on the fuel rail? Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
On 3/15/2024 at 2:10 PM, shlammed said: Why all the adapters on the fuel rail? We used a S2K intake manifold to "save money" a flange adapter was required to adapt from the K24 bolt pattern to the F20 pattern. Then the AP1 S2K injectors are bigger on the manifold side so adapters are required for that, then F20 fuel rail injector size is wrong but there isn't enough meat to machine it bigger... So we got an AP2 S2K fuel rail. Few.... All that to "save money" and try to keep as many things OEM as possible for endurance racing durability. Hopefully all worth it. 1 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
It's amazing how much it can cost to swap in a 'cheap' engine. 🙂 Of course if you have a few laying around that can help. 1 Quote Link to comment
shlammed
Haha that’s too bad. A loaded s2k manifold with injectors would have saved $ I guess still. For me the kpower intake made sense since finding that s2k bits around me wasn’t likely. I’ve only really seen a handful of them (ever) around me. Quote Link to comment

The S2K manifold was from a somewhat local Datsun guy, traded a hood cable for it 🙂 Your route makes more sense after all the little bits we had to source. The next one will be different. 1 Quote Link to comment
Trophy24
Installed the throttle body but forgot the bolts lol. On the list for next time. here is a close up of the injector adapters. The o rings were a super tight fit. Not what I am used to for fitment quality. We chamfered the holes to help but the o rings were a bit too big. 1 Quote Link to comment
Trophy24
The fuel rail bolted on with two of the four mounting points. Might be ok on the street, but we are going for endurance so custom brackets are in our future 1 Quote Link to comment
Trophy24
And a recap of the rear stub axle failure from our last race. May or may not have been related to off track excursions by yours truly. 3 Quote Link to comment

carterb
225's came back in stock so I picked up a set. Very handy to have fresh tires if it rains. Since I got them, that will guarantee a dry race right?! 2 Quote Link to comment
carterb
We finally think we got all the required things hooked up to start the engine! The first thing we find out? Bad starter. https://datsun510.com/uploads/monthly_2024_04/03202024swampthing(3).MOV.f8103526957c0e1ec844be2388fb8157.MOV Or so we thought. Turns out it was the battery! In the process, we found one of the starters purchased from pick-n-pull had the electrical connection glued on!!! What kind of a joke shop does that to a customer? Let's try another battery then... https://datsun510.com/uploads/monthly_2024_04/03202024swampthing(5).MOV.d85e682366795ddd8c06a5a63f83803d.MOV Still no fireworks though... : ( Lots of things we are unsure of at the moment so next week we'll go down the list. 2 Quote Link to comment
carterb
Jeff was kind enough to mount my new tires for Slowpoke. With Easter so close - I had to see what they would look like on the Gobstopper! 2 Quote Link to comment
carterb
The last of the Starbursts... Come on engine! Time to fire up!!! Jeff found a local guy with a matching ECU, Key, and Key detector. That is the necessary trifecta for starting one of these things apparently. https://datsun510.com/uploads/monthly_2024_04/03272024swampthing(2).MOV.7949ae2ccad587ccb6428e5c67e3db0c.MOV Well, closer... Time to go through the wiring again one more time. Found a couple errors. Let's try again. https://datsun510.com/uploads/monthly_2024_04/03272024swampthing(4).MOV.5eea7d275f64a80ad6c304f09187e858.MOV Yes!!! Ladies and gentlemen, we have Knoise! (I'm convinced it was the Starbursts!) 3 Quote Link to comment
carterb
Okay, April 19th is coming up fast! We need to switch gears and get back to the Swamp Thing! Time to get the Gobstopper out of the garage for a minute... https://datsun510.com/uploads/monthly_2024_04/Video.MOV.a76431134adb4eba6595651c49d04363.MOV Almost low enough for Jeff Return Of The Swamp Thing We have a long list to look over. I need to remember to buy some spare plugs. Let's double check our stub axles shall we? We could really do without another one of those failures. 1 Quote Link to comment
carterb
Pulled the radiator out of my VG wagon project It's a "little" bigger than the Champion 510 radiator The fit required some modification to the intake piping and the lower radiator hose is not a "gimme" Garmin lap coach mounted! I can hear it now. "Go that way - really fast! And when something gets in your way - Turn!" (name the movie) The to do list is getting shorter. I'll let Jeff and Paul tell you about recovering from the failed rear wheel bearing. Edited April 16 by carterb 4 Quote Link to comment

carterb
We are 3 days from the race. We are 3 weeks? 3 months? 3 years? away from a running, revving, endurance race surviving K powered 510. --carter Quote Link to comment
shlammed
Enjoy the race! Im excited to hear about the trials and tribulations of the swap. Race reports and all are exciting; but Im a builder more than a driver LOL. Its my tragic flaw. Quote Link to comment
