pwrcat4000
As some of you know. I use my truck all the time. I found a NOS, 2 post, analog radio and it has been "working ok" but constantly looses tune. Now the tuner knob is slipping so all I can tune to is the religious radio station and the classics.I want to install a digital tuned radio with BT for convenience sake.I am broke as hell, and not wanting to spend more than $40 so I was looking at this unitI mainly listen to am/fm.I almost never stream from my android due to data costsIt would be nice to have BT for calls, since i use the truck so much.I am going to cut the dash the stock hole has already been cut once and is pretty diced up it still has the post holes.I also am irritated that I am cutting the dash I can live with myself though.my questions to those who have done this 1. is there enough room in the stock dash? I already have a radio form the 80's in there it just wont tune. 2. how did you mount your radio in the stock dash?3. Antenna issues with modern radio? 4. Engine noise issues (running a 1979 dizzy) Thanks Ratonians 1 Quote Link to comment
Royal Sierra
I had one that was already cut and was able to fit an alpine deck nicely, but issue was there was no good place for speakers. I didnt have any engine noises coming through the speakers...my current truck I just went with a delete plate instead of messing around with a radio. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
I just put one in a few weeks ago. A lot of cutting, but not too bad. I 3D printed a nice trim plate for it. No engine noises. The Alpine 6.5’s fit in the doors no problem. I had to remove all of the ductwork to get the old stereo out. What a pain. Putting the new one in was super easy. 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
What your speakers look like in the doors? I just use a little bluetooth speaker and stream from my phone. 2 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Clean install. Don't know if I'd ever put a "modern" stereo receiver in my 521 though. If I ever do, I would hope it turns out like yours. 2 Quote Link to comment

Engine noise issues (running a 1979 dizzy) Thanks Ratonians I bought one of those $20 walmart radios a while back, I haven't gotten around to installing it yet, but I did take it apart. They are single din only for the width/height, they are surprisingly shallow (about 1/2 the depth of cd player) and most of the inside is empty, pretty much just a faceplate and cable to one board with the outputs. If tight on room you can take apart the radio and remove the case and it would free up lots of room. 2 Quote Link to comment

pwrcat4000
i know this is off topic. Seeing that install reminds me, where do you get control knobs for the fan lights windshield wipers ect are they available in the aftermarket? Right now I have hazard knob on the headlights lights choke knob on the wipers and rubber bands on the fan post. Wen to electric choke so nothing there. 1 Quote Link to comment

It was a thread " billet dash control knobs "... its one page off the main 521 page.. it's been locked... you might get lucky messaging the guy... if you read the whole post you'll understand my first comment.... 2 Quote Link to comment

d.p
I got some spares that work and look ok, back ends of them are cracked but you can't see it when they are mounted. Would be willing to part with them (headlight, wipers and fan) 1 Quote Link to comment

d.p
Did your friend only make those 3 knobs because that’s all you had? It all makes sense now. Quote Link to comment

What makes sense my truck has all its original knobs. 1972 had no choke so it comes with a little plug. I did not receive a set from my friend. 1 Quote Link to comment

pwrcat4000
It aint pretty but I am really happy with the way it works (just like the rest of the truck) the hands-free work pretty good considering the noise in the truck when driving!Holes were all ready there upgraded the broke old ones for these! 1 Quote Link to comment
