mrbigtanker
Screw in type, well shit that changes everything cant have all kinds of Knobs made. we need to find the most common to keep cost down and that can be adapted to fit all. Link to comment
thisismatt
Really it shouldn't be a problem...actually less work than the others since it doesn't need the radially drilled set screw hole. 1 Link to comment
Ranman72
with the set screw type you could just add a stud and use the set screw to hold it then it would work for both types of knobs my 1 Link to comment

thisismatt
Except the stud on the cig lighter is like a 6-32 and the hole in the regular knobs is a lot bigger, so now you're going to machine a larger stud with a 6-32 thread on one end just so you can use a slip on knob with a set screw, rather than just drilling & tapping the knob to the smaller size and loctiting it in? Makes...no sense. 1 Link to comment

thisismatt
I have all my knobs on standby if needed. Cig lighter knob seems to be an 8-32 thread, although it seems a bit loose in an 8-32 nut... 2 Link to comment

thisismatt
Not sure what the deal is with the cig lighter thread. The knob stud is a bit loose in an 8-32 nut and an 8-32 tap won't thread into the element portion by hand, nut neither will an M4x.7 tap. It's bigger than a 6-32 though. 1 Link to comment

datrod
OK Ladies let's not get our panties in a bunch. I'm really busy at the moment. If it were not for Tanker I would not have even come here to check on this. As soon as I have some free machine time I'll knock out some of these. I would like a head count as to who is in on this, Just so I know how many to make. And I can't make a bunch of different cig lighter pieces. Someone will have to make a decision on what will work best. And I might have to simplify the engraving on the knobs, 1 Link to comment
d.p
I am in for them depending on what they look like. I would need a choke knob as well. 1 Link to comment

thisismatt
What's the cost difference between "just like original" vs "simplified" engraving on the knobs? I'd really prefer them to look just like stock - might be a deal breaker for me if they don't. I'm really not trying to be a PITA,but... As for the cig lighter, I can send you mine to decide if you like, but again it is an early style engraving (I personally don't care too much about that discrepancy). I'd also prefer this to attach like stock. It would just need to be an 8-32 stud coming out, so all the knob would need is a centered 8-32 hole. Link to comment
thisismatt
Ray, do you have a late style cig lighter? Link to comment
datrod
All I can tell you is they will be as close to stock as I can get. Impossible for them to look original, First thing is they will not be concaved on the face like stock. You have to realize they made millions of these things by injection molding plastic. Then did some kind of silk screen on the face of it. I'm going to make a hand full out of aluminum. Whole different ball game. You can't get the OEM knobs so these will be a nice replacement. BUT NOT OEM!!!!!! I'm not going to waste my time if they are not going to sell. Link to comment
