Hiring a transport would have cost less, but then you wouldn't have had the experience. What are your plans for the bus? Gonna solve some mysteries? I thought about hiring a transporter they came in anywhere as cheap as 500 up 1000 but i opted to drive there to do a hand shake deal, when this all started i was looking on ebay and people wanted you to mail them a bank check to complete the sale.... ummm no... plus I wouldn't have gotten the extra 500 off... If had more time to plan I probably could have had my friend go do the deal then hire a transporter but I only just agreed to buy it on Wednesday last week and I was on the road by Saturday to get.. I didn't wanna miss the deal so this was the best way to get it done quickly..... As for the plan it's for the wife... she wants to daily drive it around town. She is the art teacher at my son school, and she has always dreamed of a hippie van so I just made it happen. Why wait.... Plus we can use it for over night camping..it has the bed in the back. Maybe some car shows too along with the datsun. It's also gonna be like a little she shed parked next to our soon to be hot tub.. so she can go between hot tubing, and reading and arting in the van.... 1 Quote Link to comment

I have been there but haven't actually joined the sight.... Bus is a day away from driving, the last couple parts I need arrive today, we pick up the plate and registration from the insurance tomorrow.... Still plenty of little things to do but I have it repaired enough and ready for a Massachusetts inspection.... Quote Link to comment

These will make it possible to go lower and not bend the stock shock stud. I am bending my studs and came across this. I assume a goon is a wagon? What year and what shocks are used with eyelets on both ends? Thanks Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You would need to know the compressed and extended lengths of your 521 shocks. All shocks are different. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Yes a goon is a 510, 710 wagon. I just fixed my pictures in my quoted post above. This was back when photobucket held our pictures hostage, trying to force us into paying them to release the pictures with no water marks. Could have been handled much better in another way. I will not use Photobuckit and I cannot recommend Photobucket to anyone. Edited July 27 by Charlie69 Quote Link to comment

Seems hard to find one of a wagon but maybe I can make this work… 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Well thankfully the datsun has been running strong.. I thought I would have a little money left over to finally get some door panels and maybe my seats redone, or atleast the driver seat cushion fixed... but I went over budget getting her the bus and getting it road worthy.... Good thing is while I might be out of money I got everything squared aways and paid for and I'm finally putting a little a side for the datsun... Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Not a good day for the datsun..... The engine stalled as I was opening my garage, upon trying to restart it sounded instantly like a bad rod knock, which was not present before it stalled.... The only thing I could confirm is that it ate the spark plug on cylinder 4.... Not sure exactly, but what i do know is I'll be removing the oil pan really soon... But my guess is the datsun is done for the year till I can sort through this... Hopefully I can fix it before the spring.. Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
And it keeps getting better... Wife has been driving her vw bus all over lately.. so tonight was no different other than she only made it 100 yards down the road.... Well I ended up pushing her home.. At first I thought the clutch cable but that's still good... now I think the clutch let go somehow.... I can shift but there is just nothing, no power is being transferred to the tranmission.... Seems like I'll have to pull the engine to see what broke.... I guess I'm hoping it's only the clutch.... Quote Link to comment

I would post that question over on the Samba site...those guys really know their buses inside and out...hopefully nothing to bad...I wonder if the pressure plate took a dump on you... Good luck crash...also hope the Datsun is not hurt too bad either... keep us in the loop 1 Quote Link to comment

How bad is to be determined, only good thing is I actually have mainer311s old engine, for an idea I had, for efi but I might be using it as a replacement for a little bit..... As for the bus It has to be the pressure plate or the clutch pad .... either way that engine has to come out too.... Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Sorry to hear about the truck (and the bus). No problem using my L16 if you want. I don’t have any need for it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420 Posted yesterday at 12:21 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:21 AM Well I found the issue.... Looks like a piece from the air filter hold down broke off..... See the missing leg.... Found the pieces in the cylinder... Quote Link to comment

Crashtd420 Posted yesterday at 12:23 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:23 AM The bore piston rings and the rest of the piston survived. Only damage was on the face.... Same with head... I think the valves survive but the heads all banged up... Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420 Posted yesterday at 12:26 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:26 AM (edited) I actually have new stainless valves sitting on my shelf... I had intentions of head work eventually.... I think the intake is bigger, I forgot if the exhaust was too.... gonna see what a machine shop can do... head it think can be saved but I'm not sure about the piston... I have to see how deep the marks are.... Edited yesterday at 12:27 AM by Crashtd420 Quote Link to comment

I had a similar breakage issue with my old filters way back when! Crazy that yours totally broke off like that! I caught mine before it got that bad, the weld popped on the faceplate. That's when I changed to the UNI filters... but thinking now about swapping back to a K&N that has the same mount.... hmmmm... 1 Quote Link to comment

I will probably regret it as the Topsfield Fair is in town that weekend which means I will likely end up sitting in traffic to get home, but always a good showing there. 1 Quote Link to comment
