logicali
The 210 has small cc , so with the port and valve work , the compression on this thing should be good right? So right now I'm porting the intake ports to 1.4 they were stock 1.125 I'm going to polish it also and I'm going to get 280 Z intake and exhaust valves installed when I have the valve job ...going to put a W58 cam and rockers from my l20b stock head that I have sitting here I heard the w58 cam was very similar too the sss cam ,,, any input ? logicali
This is a 1.3 exhaust valve Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It can certainly be done if you have no other head option. I doubt the port walls are overly thick so go easy on the porting. All L20B cams are the same or so close to be of no importance. They are almost identical to the SSS cam, yes and have a 0.413" lift. Back in the mid '70 I slipped a 510 head on my L20B while the other was out for milling. It ran just fine, didn't notice any difference. Gas was better back then too. 1 Quote Link to comment
logicali
I have a bunch of w58 heads and this 210 head , and couldn't find a closed chamber one cheap ... So I figured a couple man hours and I'll be fine 1 Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
All your W58 are open? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The 210 is open also. The 210 on a 2 liter will up the compression to 9.3 and it will ping. If you want compression mill the W58 head 1mm and you have a 9 to one compression, big valves, larger ports... and it will ping. You'll need higher octane gas. With luck you might get 4-5% increase in power for a one point jump in compression. You might get half that going from 8.5 to 9. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Some are better than others, but any combination can be tuned to work. I don't recall ever having a setup that pinged so bad that I couldn't get it to work, even my 12:1 2200 street motor. To me, engine work is no big deal, so maybe that's why I'm so blase' about it. Go ahead and try it, but if you don't like it, you may have some work to do. Swapping a cylinder head is nothing more than a couple gaskets and an afternoon. 1 Quote Link to comment

scooter
Might ping on 87, so don't run 87 in it :) Taa daaaa! Someone should sacrifice some heads and cut up some heads with a band saw.. See how thick they actually are. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The ports? They are already large in the W58 head. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I would never willingly swap on a round exhaust port head. If I had a choice, that is. 1 Quote Link to comment
Loryde520
I'm running a closed chamber 210 head on my L20B with a Shadbolt 445 cam on #2 hole and Mikuni R1 carbs. I now apparently have 10:1 compression. I am running Chevron 94 octane, but did fill lastnight with 91 octane. My truck pulls hard in all gears with no pinging whatsoever. I will see after the 91 octane runs through it. 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
210 have small valves soft valves seats but if it keeps the truck running fuck it, it works 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I wonder if Edelbrock would ever consider building a 219 copy... Can you guys imagine what would happen if, all of a sudden, 510 performance parts were abundant in the aftermarket? 1 Quote Link to comment

He works around gasoline products and said the 94 octane would make the engine run hotter, and it is true,...according to my set-up. 2 Quote Link to comment

Can you guys imagine what would happen if, all of a sudden, 510 performance parts were abundant in the aftermarket? If edelbrock decided to make a new casting, I would be on the pre order list. We need to get all datsun people in on this.. If they can make an aluminum 4 liter jeep head, I'm sure they can pound out a new datsun head with modern combustion chambers easily! I've thought about making some casting patterns myself! 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
8millions jeeps. DEMAND!!!!!!!!! maybe 20 thousand L motors left in the world and 90% are Cheap MoFos when a KA/SRs are on crates ready to ship Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Hainz is saying the demand side of the expression 'supply and demand' is lacking. Of all the Datsun owners out there who going to buy one??? Maybe a few dozen? These won't be cheap either hence the 'cheap mofos' comment. This is not a case of 'build it and they will come'. There's basically zero demand for them. Far cheaper to hog out a closed chamber head Quote Link to comment
scooter
im gonna talk to some pattern makers. casting an aluminum block should be relatively easy too, the block is simple. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Uh... there are already lots of blocks out there, hell I have two now in my back yard plus a Z20 and a Z24. Aluminum is lighter, not much other advantage and you would have to run sleeves 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Yeah, but... It was really just a joke. Can you imagine though? If you could build a LZ22 with 210HP with all new parts, and an aluminum block too...? That would be really cool. And a major turning point for the Japanese collector car movement. 2 Quote Link to comment
