That620son
New guy to the forums here. I will post pics as soon as I can (raining at time of post). I recently, Oct 2014, saved a 620 from visiting the scrapyard. I have hopes of restoring it and have started some of the mechanics already, will list. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated as I will do a personal resto not original. I would like to dehook the bed and was wondering if it requires any supporting needed to be done for the rail. Thanks in advance. 1978 Datsun 620 Shortbed Regular Cab 2wd Pros: Has around 110k on it L20b runs great Factory disc brakes New slave cylinder and clutch master Newly rebuilt carb Decent tires $350 with clean clear title Cons: Truck sat under tree for 10 years as a store all Seat is gone Dash is gone Floor pans gone Bed is rusted out Cab is decent but rockers are gone Door bottoms gone Hood hinges rusted so bad when it was opened for the first time it ripped the mount from the cab Fuel gauge and Temp gauge don't work Fuel system was gummed up(fixed now) Brake system is gone Shifter is loose Has emissions partially still hooked up(will be removing all of that) More but my heart hurts from listing this 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Welcome to Ratsun. The bed tie downs can be trimmed without worries. Both gauges are powered from the same source, probably a blown fuse. For $350 you should have money over to look for a parts truck. Look for one with a good cab and box and swap them onto yours... probably cheaper than fixing. A parts truck will also have spare parts when you need them. 1 Quote Link to comment

I have tried to find a parts truck to no avail. There isn't that many of these trucks around here or datsuns, other than z's, for that matter. So, I am going to have to fab a lot of parts. 1 Quote Link to comment

sebpv
WEIGHT REDUCTION YOOO! 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Actually rust is heavier as it contains added oxygen atoms. Well, unless the rusty part falls off then yes... lighter. 1 Quote Link to comment
That620son
Well, I paid less than scrap price for it so I can handle a little rust. I used to work in a welding shop so I can come across metal very cheaply. Those racing seats though, that is some weight reduction if I use them. I also have a set of buckets out of an early thousands Altima I may use. Not to sure yet. I can't fit a kids car seat in the racing ones. 1 Quote Link to comment

That620son
Took the wheels off to check the brakes. I have a broken wheel stud I have to replace. I got it out easily. Also, need new shoes. Broke the bleeder valve. After 1 trip to the parts store and screwing the threads up on an easy out, I got it drilled out and cleaned up. Now ready for new bleeder and to get the brakes back up. More to come soon. I'm new to this progress pics thing so if there is anything you guys want to see, let me know. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Looks like a beast of a project. I would be worried that in a single cab there would not be enough space to get in to that style racing bucket, unless you put in a removable steering wheel or something. I say go with the altima option, or sell all of it and buy something like bmw e30 seats, like the 510 guys use. Nice seats, but still vintage looking. 1 Quote Link to comment

That620son
Update to the 2 or 3 of you that follow this build. I have had to put the truck on hold for a little while. I am currently trying to source parts for it. As soon as I can get what I need I will get back on it. Also, I'm looking to buy another Datto/Nissan, so I'm trying to divide time between part hunting and vehicle hunting. 1 Quote Link to comment

That620son
lot of work to save this one Na, it's never to much work if you enjoy doing it, to much money maybe but never to much work. I'm just having a time finding any parts worthwhile near me. 2 Quote Link to comment
